Re the vacuuming I have a big old Henry which is good but a nightmare to drag around. I keep looking at various cordless stick vacuums but the are so expensive and would be a costly mistake if the are no good. Does anyone have have one? Are they worth the money. I love the thought of lightweight and not being tethered to the wall. I may even start to enjoy vacuuming.

I bought a Dyson V7 cordless vacuum (££) last (long hot) summer and I LURVE it for exactly the reasons you give. But I did not lurve it until I got an extra attachment/ head (£).

There are cheaper effective alternatives: I have a Which? subscription and am very happy to share their reviews but obviously do not want to 'spam' this thread! :p I have posted about Which? Best Buy stick vacuums on the Old Style sub and the DIY sub, feel free to ask for different/ additional/ more targeted information. I will keep an eye out for your username.

    HTH. :)

My kitchen and porch are a magnet for clutter!

I keep all the pet supplies in the kitchen as we have 5 animals!

I went through my store cupboards and took out the plastic containers there. I never use them as I keep rice and pasta in glass jars.

I put all the pet supplies away in them and put them in the drawers. I put all the dog treats in a container and in the cupboard too. I just kept one black box with a lid out on the surface that we use everyday.

I threw away some old medication and vitamins and recycled the bottles.

I put all the loose change I keep by the front door in another container.

Ah, it looks a lot better now!:A

    Hello all

I made a decision about some of my holiday clothes and 4 tops are now in the cs bag. I am ashamed that they have never been worn and still have the labels on because they needed altering and therefore have languished in the holiday clothes box for quite a while. ( I'm talking a few years .) I also found 2 pairs of lightweight trousers that need taking up and I shall do that tomorrow. Unfortunately this morning has been taken up by a GP appointment for me and then later DH has an appointment to have his oncology injection, so there's a lot of waiting around today.
    Happy decluttering !

Not masses of decluttering going on here but trying to get things moving out of the house and abit extra if I can

*180-184 items x4 dropped off at the CS finally this morning including a brand new top (haven't a clue where it came from but it doesn't suit me!)

*185 a huge amount of cardboard put out for recycling
*186 bag of plastic wrappings dropped in local supermarket collection point
*187 birthday present being given today. Not a small thing it has been waiting for ages ready
for this birthday. I had to dust it before wrapping it!

Have more neutral items to be shipped out. About 2 boxes worth then these are finished.

Started decluttering in Jan but here's what I've got through since April.

Sold loads of vinyl records that have been sitting in my loft for decades. Made a decent amount on some too (tip: Depeche Mode is well-sort after).

Sold 12 PS3 games that haven't been touched for at least 5 years.

Sold a white dressing table that hadn't been used for about 10 years.

Sold a TV that was never used along with a stand (bonus = more space!)

    May's Target:

    1. Going through DVD's. I have 18 Disney family DVD's ready to be advertised - 2 decades worth! Plenty of others that I'll donate or sell as a lot

    2. Sell remaining cheap vinyl in large lots

    3. Go through the many, many boxes of cuddly toys (it really is a little obscene how many the kids had). Sell and donate if anywhere will take them. <- tips/suggestions would be appreciated.

This officially makes me accountable if I don't reach my target!

Mainly ebay so far. I started by doing a spreadsheet of everything I own. Then I checked "sold" listings for as many as possible and created my ads.

Started with the most valuable LP's and then grouped the cheaper ones together to make it more attractive/better value for a buyer.

I'll do the remaining vinyls as 3 to 4 lots of about 20 records on eBay, Gumtree, Preloved and Friday-ad.

Oh - and I used these which are pretty expensive for packaging but I'm yet to have any damage reported to any of the records sold.

  • So, OH and I spent the weekend decluttering our bedroom. Still have loads of stuff to sort in the house, but at least its a start.
    Decluttered list as follows:
    569 - 575 items to ragging
576 - 714 LOL cards to colleague for children
715 - 865 LOL stickers to colleague for children
    866 - 900 Toys to CS
    901 - 945 Disney stickers to colleague
946 - 1035 clothes, books and games to CS
    1036 - 1049 items to ragging
    1050 - 1092 more clothes to CS
    1093 PJ bottoms binned
    1094 - 1106 items to ragging
1107 cross stitch mag to CS
1108 - 1120 toys and shoes to colleague
    1121 shoes to ragging
    1122 - 1156 wool to colleague
    1157 - 1168 clothes to CS
    1169 - 1174 items to ragging
    1175 - 1184 sealed makeup to CS
    1185 - 1208 wool to colleague
1209 - 1215 packs of beads to colleague
1216 - 1220 badges to colleague for child
    1221 - 1328 clothes, bags & shoes to CS
1329 - 1346 bags to transport items to CS
    1347 - 1410 coat hangers to CS
    1411 - 1462 items to ragging
1463 - 1480 1cm thick bundles of paper to recycling

and still the house is a tip - the sad thing is its taken me a lot of years and MH issues to realise I have issues with buying things and having "stuff" and that it doesn't make me any better. I find decluttering very hard but its also becoming cathartic.
