When my boiler cover was due, I did my research and opted to go with the well known company Corgi, a few months in and my boiler started acting up and knowing what the cause was rang Corgi, I stated that it had happened before and my previous plan with NPower had sorted it twice before over a few years being the the condensate was blocked and needed clearing and draining. Being very cold with no heating or hot water all day the customer advisor stated under the terms and conditions that as it was a preexisting fault that this was not covered, I told him it was a well documented fact that this model would do this if the condensate drain blocked, his reply was well a possible manufacturers fault is also not covered. A local plumber had me sorted in about 20 mins, cost me £30 and happy to pay it.

Looked into Corgi Homeplan and the are a small company in Dumfries and bought the Corgi name to trade under and use contractors around the country. My DD has been cancelled which cost me another £30 and I have decided to self insure using an unused bank account to put what would have been my policy cost and use my local plumber who has all of his Gas Safe certificate .

    Please check the T&C, I didnt !

    Corgi HomePlan :wall::naughty:

You did your research ok......... debateable...

Ok let me clear this up, and really reading their t&c;s would clear this up.

This Company running the Corgi plan was known as Green Installer ltd.

They have used the corgi name to trick people (imo) into thinking they were dealing with the real corgi.

They have not bought the name....

    they use it under License.

And if you shopped around, did it not alarm you that the price is incredibly cheaper than any other equivalent competitor out there? didnt that ring alarm bells?
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

was the condensate blocked or frozen ?

corgi will not unfreeze a condensate pipe (as if it had been installed correctly it shouldn't have frozen) however they have guidelines as to what the engineer should do if this is the problem when he attends & this should get your boiler working again.

lots of boilers won't work if the condensate is blocked/frozen

next time don't try & help out when you phone just say my boiler isn't working
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

disagree, condensates installed to manufacturers instructions will still freeze.

The winter 2 yrs ago was exceptional, and caused most condensates to freeze.

Once they realised this problem, those wee thermal wires were brought out to be fitted into the condensate pipe to prevent the pipe freezing.

    Hello

I have a Baxi Barcelona Condensing boiler which was serviced under BG Homecare upto about 12 months ago. It now needs a service (and a repair as it sounds poorly and has to be reset a lot). Could anyone advise me on what to do? Ie Go back to BG (in which case do I have to wait something like 30 days before I can 'claim'), just get an independent repair man in or get a new boiler!
I had a trusted independent repair man in (who is now unavailable) and he said the trouble is he could find the problem (out of several possibilities) straight away or after a lot of time/cost which could go towards a replacement bolier. He also said were were lucky to get the 13 years out of it!

    Thanks
  • Lots of ads for boiler cover in the press, which never specify "gas" but that's what they always turn out to be.
Is there an equivalent for oil-fired boilers? That's what many rural homes have to use due to lack of mains gas.

I have for the last 3 years had Central Heating cover with Npower with a 50% refund if I didnt call them out. In year 2 we did need a repair so lost that refund, then this year we needed the same thing repaired so again lost the refund (I think this part should have been within a 12 month guarantee, but I lost this argument with Npower). Anyway, year on year the price has risen and the renewal for this coming year came in at £18p/m and no longer with the 50% refund. I've done some shopping around and found a new policy - I thought some of you may be interested so:
Normally £13.25 a month, but with code is £5.99 (CHCOFFER)
Central Heating Care 50 with EON
This is for central heating cover including the boiler service for a period of 12 months.
There is a £50.00 call out fee, but even with this, it's a lot cheaper than any other policy I've found.

True, but I would have to have more than 3 call outs in the year to pay more than the npower £18.00 a month. and most of the other policies I found had a £50.00 call out fee as well.

I accept there are never any guarantees, but I still think this is a good bet.

Does anyone know of any oil-fired boiler cover available in East Riding of Yorkshire?
We have recently moved into a house with a fairly new boiler but we're not sure how it works and it seems to come on and go off randomly.
We had British Gas Boiler & CH cover in our last house and they kept our boiler going for 10 years but were reluctant to find parts after that and urged us to replace it. We declined because of the cost but the monthly charge went up on renewal.
