Hi there, I have just bought a property with a combi gas boiler. I am looking for an affordable service contract and wondered if anyone had used Homeserve before? They appear to be offering it for £6.50 per month. I am in Scotland.
go in to their t&c's
2nd last page>>>> all that they guarantee to do is a temp repair.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
Interesting Discussion. Cannot find a good recommendation!
In my case I have had bad experiences with British Gas (more their adminthan the engineers, it must be said), and with D&G (truly awful experience)
There is a real gap in the market for reliable and honest boiler/electricalrepairs at a fair price.
In my case I would like to highlight British Gas latest wheeze.
You renew your Homecare agreement, but please note, they have now stated inthe middle that there is a £50 excess. So every time the come and fix somethingyou will have to pay the first £50.
I did not spot this, or realise the implications, that bit I am responsible for(mitigating reasons in my case)
If your boiler breaks down a couple of times, you will have to pay £100 ontop of the maintenance agreement.
Of course, as you get older, you get more cynical, as time after time theinitial problem is never fixed.
In my case, I solved the problem, and had a service at the same time. Theengineer naturally did not record anything so that we did not get an invoicefor £50.
In reality, it is a call out fee in all but name.
Buyer Beware.
anyone know a good value deal with boiler service, that does not charge callout or excess, and is prompt and has good service?
An actual recommendation other than "local plumber", I don't wantto go into shark infested wasters to find the good guy amongst all the piranhas.

You will have requested this at one point.
B Gas do not simply switch customers onto this.
They would rather you pay the higher monthl/yearly price.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -

Is this the company who mislead their customers into thinking they are corgi, rather than Green Installer..... a 3rd party company.
The company who used the Corgi name at the start without permission?
I recently got a letter with the corgi timeline, the letter telling me to look at OUR TIMELINE..... i wonder what the ASA will state about that..... as per companies house...... Corgi Homeplan Ltd have only been running for over 3.5years....
The corgi timeline dates back to 1970.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
DO NOT touch Home Assist uk ltd. Be very careful who your insurance company uses for home emergency cover. Mine is Nationwide and guess who will not be getting my business next time. Boiler blew, it happens. Sunday morning contact Home assist. One of their first questions was " are there any vulnerable or disabled persons living there " ? YES, my wife is a paraplegic and is a full time wheelchair user, we have no heating or hot water. You would have thought that this would ring some alarm bells. Plumber came 36 hours later and so begins the debacle of dealing with these people. Many promises broken, still no plumber, they can get a part £15 cheaper than the plumber quotes, "we will authorize the work today" "yes we are taking this matter seriously"
""are there any vulnerable or disable people living there" (this question is asked every time we ring though you would have thought once was enough) !!! 1 week later we are still waiting for the plumber to arrive. These people are morons on telephones, not to be trusted, they do not care. Please do not touch them with a barge pole. The insurance ombudsman will have some work to do now.0 -
This company fail to deliver. Both me and my mother have been waiting over a year for our boiler to be serviced and they ignore our contact to arrange for their services to be delivered. Cheap company with appalling service. Avoid!!0

can i have some advice please, i currently have gold boiler cover with swinton ins, when my boiler broke down before christmas they were very good and did what they promised in the booklet, however the team of engineers they used were totally incompetant and muppets bless them. three men came out, parts were ordered parts were fitted, parts were not needed cos it didnt fix the problem, its a real long story of sheer excellence in the muppetry dept but to cut a long story short, to get heating back in time for my three infants in time for christmas i ended up having to call a baxi engineer out at a cost of three hundred pounds hwo fixed the boiler in 20 minutes with parts from his van. can i claim this back, can i claim compensation for the days lost, the phone calls, the electricity used to heat a three story house with elecric fires etc etc etc.
Any pointers in the right direction would be very helpful. best wishes0 -
:mad:Switched to NPower annual boiler care late last year. Within a month an engineer visited. He said there was a problem with the flue and turned the boiler off, without doing a service. I have since sorted the flue and booked an appointment for Wednesday. Took the day away from work. Half way through the day got a call saying the engineer could not show up as had been held up on previous appt. So re-booked a morning appt. for today. Took another day away from office. At midday no engineer. I called in and was told engineer would be with me in afternoon. Soon after 2 got call saying original engineer sick and replacement engineer delayed on call and would not be coming! Asked for refund and to cancel contract. Told manager who could make that decision not there.....:mad:0
