  • The £11 a month deal is just Boiler breakdown cover it included no service or accidental damage cover, Just thought id mention that. You will not need to have a service done no but it is good practice to have it done. If you use local RGI's you will find the average full service to be around £70 - £80 i think.

    thanks for the reply, well its good if i can get cover without my system needing to be serviced, im cynical i kinda think they rub a few things with a wire brush and blow out the dust and cobwebs and charge you £80 lol. As combi boilers are notorious for being unreliable im just concerned about boiler cover, my house is only a few years old so im comfortable the rest should be fine.;)

    Out BG homecare 200 (with service) came for renewal at £245 per year (despite 2 years with no claims!). Lady could offer no more than 10% discount. However, she said if pay for HC200 seprateley with service as added extra and -10% cost will be £206 pa.
    Has had anyone else had any luck in haggling for better discounts with BG?

    Is there any cover you can take out on a fairly old boiler that will pay in full for a replacement? Ours is (at a guess) 15 years old and recently broke down so we got some quotes to replace it and they were horrendously expensive! It looks like most of the companies I've found only give you a few hundred quid towards replacement and that's only if your boiler is less than around 7 years old!

    Are there any other options?

    That is just a little optimistic:D

    Do you seriously think any company will take on a 15 year old boiler and 'pay in full' to replace it? Nice try!

    In fact I doubt if any reputable company will take it on for repair. You might get some firms that will agree to give you cover, but there will be so many exclusions to make the agreement worthless. MSE is full of horror stories about these companies.

    That has been the dilemma facing everyone for years, i.e. BG's costs going through the roof.

    If you look through the scores of threads on this issue, there is no reliable cheaper option that people have found.

    Frankly you are better to 'self-insure' i.e. put the £250 a year in a bank account and keep fingers crossed!

    Perhaps a little optimistic, but if such cover doesn't exist I can't see why anyone would buy this cover! They mostly seem to pay out up to £500 for a boiler no more than 7 years old - but a boiler than young is unlikely to die and most of them come with a 5 year warranty anyway! Can't see why anyone would pay a couple hundred quid a year for that.

    Well you do get a service included.

    People pay it as an Insurance policy, BG will come out and for many repairs it costs nothing.

    The trouble is that these days BG find excuses not to cover older boilers - lack of spsres, heat exchanger not covered etc etc. They then load premiums.

    Well....BG shoot theirs prices up,but have to say they are still happy to insure my 19 years old boiler which broke down obout 4 thimes this year/ well they made manufacture call outs twice as their engener were unable to fix it.:eek:
    I think I stick to BG....on my name...oooo shall I swap to my hubby (a new customer):idea::idea:
  • Long shot, but is there anyone out there that will repair my broken down boiler and cover me at the same time (none of the 28 day exclusion stuff)...
