can only agree my experience of Halifax has only been positive, I have accounts with both them and X-O but find x-o too amateur which is not others experience with their site.

Yes the Halifax fees are too high they need to be lower but with the £3.95 trades once a month.

I'm looking to sell some shares I own and want to avoid CGT. Am I right in thinking this is currently £11k/tax year?


If so I bought the shares at £3.65 many years ago and they're now valued at £19 so can I sell 716 of them and get £10,990.60 tax free?


(£15.35 capital gain x 716 shares = £10,990.60)


Also, if my sums are correct can I do the same again after the 1st April?

Sounds like a plan that would work. Surely they account for time also but I might be thinking of the old system.
You only pay tax on your profit above that allowance

Yes, that would all be fine. But don't forget that the new tax year doesn't start till 6 Apr, so don't make another sale before then.
