I need to transfer some Zurich Insurance Group paper shares into electronic shares in order to do anything with them.

I have been told I need to find a bank or broker in the UK where I can open up a securities account, into which the electronic shares can be put. But the bank or broker must be a custodian in the UK with a Swiss transfer bank (SIX SIS participating bank).  

Anyone know of a bank/broker who can do this? I only have 4 shares and don't have large sums of money to invest.

You could try interactive brokers. You cannot contact the registrar (Computershare?) and have it sell them for you?

I need some advice in relation to Probate and Shares and Investments.

My Father passed away in October 2021. We live in Scotland so dealing with Scottish legal system. My Dad had about £350K in shares and investments at the time of his death. His estate is uncomplicated in that I was able to give the solicitor all the details of his finances etc and his will left everything to my Mum apart from the 1/3 of his movable estate which I am legally entitled to under Scottish law. We are still waiting for his estate to be finalised.

We realise that the system has slowed down because of Covid but we were expecting that it should have been completed by the end of the summer. The solicitor blames the various financial institutions for taking their time to reply to correspondence and one of the executors who works away, however I don’t accept this as an excuse because the other executor has been emailing and posting any paperwork to the solicitor. 

So my concern is that the value of Dad’s shares and investments (I’m sorry if that’s the wrong name) have dropped in value quite significantly since he died even more so in the last 6 months. Is there any comeback against the solicitor or the institutions for the loss in value because of them taking much longer to process his estate? Surely there must be a law that the value stays as at the date of his death because his accounts were frozen from that date?

Also, my Mum would like to buy me a bungalow (i am a wheelchair user) as my current house no longer meets my needs. She intends to use what comes from Dad's estate to pay for it. However, the drop in value makes quite a big difference between what is affordable. Should we wait for the market to fully recover or just cut our losses? If so, how long is it likely to take? Are we talking weeks, months or years? I have never had this sort of money so it actually makes me feel physically nauseous at how much money has been lost, but at the same time I need to move and be able to move on with my life as the move would involve a relocation of about 30 miles to near where my mum lives, and I am spending half my time staying at my mums and half my time at my own house and it is taking a toll on my mental wellbeing.
