Further to above have heard from them this morning. They have moved my password to the account name (they had previously confirmed my chosen account name in an email). I´m surprised that they:

know the password not in its encrypted form
that they can change account names accidentally
that login is just via a full password entry (most use a double entry one of which is based on random character selection e.g. Fidelity, hl, Lloyds, etc.).

I note that logging in does not seem to give access to bank details (presumably if you need to change bank accounts you do it in writing) and that you couldn´t trade without a trade code. This means a hacker would only get your personal details.

I´m sure it is just a screw up and I know others have found them problem free but this has put me off.

Hi all, after recently reading Ben Graham I am increasingly convinced that Lloyds Banking Group is a classic 'value share'. Trading at 29p with the dividend restriction just lifted and turning a profit for the first time since inception says to me that their shares are set to rise over the next 1-2 years.
I'm thinking of buying a LOT (although not making it more than 10% of my entire portfolio) and sitting on it for a decade.
Am I missing a trick here?

I hope not as I´m thinking of doing something similar. My main thought was don´t be greedy (as you have pointed out), keep costs down, get best spread. I think there is a safe guard that the gov will not let them sink. The counter is that both have very weak management IMHO.

Keeping costs down is why I applied to x-o (see above) but c`est la vie.

I was thinking RBS and LBG.

The only problem I have is assessing their exposure to a Euro break up and if waiting to September might be best.

For sure when I go in it will be with a target and if it is met in the short term I won´t hesitate to take profits to cover the investment.

For sure I´m only an amateur so you should take this with a pinch of salt Good luck with yours

More specifically its a value trap. Typically people go for growth whether its expensive or not isnt a problem as strong growth justifies many faults

Lloyds isnt growth, its a case of will it survive and does that make it cheap or will the shares will wiped out by problems with debts/bonds which rank higher. Ie they get profits, Game survived but not the shares

Biggest bank in UK, it is a ten year thing and mostly about mortgage debt I think. Buy on the lows I think is best, it can double from 20 to 40 but will it ever build or grow beyond that.

I think it goes sideways for ten years if it survives, you make money but its risky. They are being forced to sell off assets, so its negative growth if anything. The current debate, will they even get fair asset value.

Some fair points.
With LBG turning a profit and (as per their annual report), the forced sell off of the branches having no effect and the fact that they can pay dividends again tells me that it's worth a punt - I may go lower than I was going to at first due to some points that you both made, although my belief is that the Euro will survive and that the threat of a nationalisation of LBG is long gone.
I'll buy 50% LBG and 50% GSK in that case I think.

GSK looks to be safer with definite moves by management not to repeat last year's performance. I may hold off until Wednesday to hear their 1stQ report.

I hadn't considered RBS, but with the planned float of Direct Line later this year, those too could be a good company to have in my portfolio in the relatively short term.

RBS is more risky as its overseas and government has no interest in supporting that

The Euro will fail to keep all the members it has now, I think it'll disappear altogether but maybe it takes ten years.
That is more likely then the countries adopting the same tax and spending policies across the whole of europe

I did not think LBG relied on euro for reserves or borrowing

Well db and sabre you'll carry the can for this one I was going to go 50-50 Lloy and RBS but in the end after lots of thoughts I went all in to LloydsTSB at 29.57. If nothing else it reduces the dealing fees

I decided anything below 30 was good but for RBS I wanted below 22.5. Perhaps I'll have a nibble another day :beer:
