  • Hi - Just wondered if anyone buys 'Autarky' complete dog food online? I have a voucher for 5 pounds off a 12kg bag. As I no longer have my lovely dog, I have no use for it so someone else is very welcome to it. It must be used for an online order before 31st December 2018. If you are interested, send me a PM and I will pop voucher in post.

Hello my little festive fir cones,
Not much signal where we were staying in the south west, but have been catching up with your frugal antics & also with tasks I need to do on the domestic front. Today's efforts should run thus:
*Two baths from one lot of hot water - I have been encouraged by our energy monthly dd being reduced.
*Dinner just gone in slow cooker - Spanish beef. Enough for tomorrow night too......cook once, eat twice is so helpful at busy times. Will serve with rice tonight & jacket potatoes tomorrow. 200g more stewing beef than required by recipe so have frozen it for mr f's next Epic Man Stew - there's bound to be one before too long..........eye-roll........
*Moved laundry around the heated airer to help the bigger garments dry.
*Changed bed linen & loaded washer for cheap rate laundry load overnight.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch - mr f's last working day for a while unless some S hits the fan on Fri, when he might go in & determine the extent of the S iyswim.
*Cut stamps off all cards received in the last few days to add to my stash for the RSPB albatross appeal. It doesn't take a minute to cut them off & I like to think something destined for the waste stream can actually make a little money for a good conservation cause. I don't know much about albatrosses so intend to find out about them later - I bet Ally's seen a real one. I bet they're amazing & awesome.
*Make 2 of my 4 planned batches of Christmas fudge for gifting. Am doing 3 different flavours this year. Have already altered/cut down pretty gift bags for presenting this, so it should look reasonably professional. Very cheap gift, which ALL FOUR recipients have actually requested!
*Make festive decoration for front door - I usually make a wreath, just from the innards of one I recycled years ago, wire & bits snipped from the garden. I think my sore wrist/thumb combo will be an issue with this today, so I might just hand tie a bouquet of greenery, holly, ivy, etc, with a red bow & add a few baubles. Either way, it will be a DIY spend-free creation.
*Defrost leftover fondant icing for icing Christmas cake tomorrow. Find cake decorations box.
*Update grocery budget & try to fit in a mid-month budget update to touch base since our mini-break.
*Look for ebay invoice (there was a problem last month) & transfer money from Paypal to bank account.
*No downstairs heating on (except bathroom towel radiator) until much later. I'm moving around too much to need it atm.
*Try to knit a bit more of my jumper. Am struggling as this tendonitis is awful & I've had it for weeks. Might even venture a Dr appt, but I'm not sure they can do anything. I do really want to wear my new jumper though.
*Packed recycled wrappings from mr f's birthday away into my wrappings stash.
*Try to finish my book so I can pass it to my sister when I see her. A charity shop find. The characters in it are old-style frugal folk for sure, living on moose & potato stew for weeks, canning & bottling, etc.
*Update my dfw diary. Bailey'sbabe if you are reading this today - I spotted that you asked me a question about saving, etc, I've only not replied because I've been away in a distinctly internet-free zone, but I've been thinking about it, & will try to pop on & answer properly today.
And now I must find my sugar thermometer, measure out the butter & milk & get cracking with this fudge.
    Love to all,
    F x

Nope. Way too far South for me. ;) Though, some showed up in Yorkshire a couple of years ago. (Link) And Scotland had one called Albert.

    Afternoon all :)
I haven't seen an albatross either - but I am saving my stamps for them :) Does anyone know if this appeal is just for the Christmas period, or is it all the year round?
Been to sales unit this morning, had a couple of small sales, so put some more bits in. The shop is closed after Saturday till after New Year, so any extra sales over the next few days specially welcome!
Stripped bed and washed linen.... and then had to rinse it again... and wash some of it again :( Nasty marks/ bits all over it, some of which shake off. Don't know whether to blame the dusters that were in the machine with the bedding, or the yucky dispenser drawer which I have just cleaned out :o Anyway, on a hot wash now, so hoping the white sheet comes out white this time
    Remade bed
Hoovered bedroom, dusting still to do

Swept out conservatory / glass back porch thingy (it really isn't posh enough to be a conservatory :o), cleaned and replaced mats
Emptied compost caddy and the old pan we use to put the ashes in when one or the other of us cleans out the wood stove. It is just wood ash, so that went in the compost as well.
Used up last of old loaf for lunchtime cheese on toast :)
Gammon joint in oven for dinner / future meals. This was a big one I got reduced in Mr S yesterday :) Will do a pan of roasted veg, some of the giant cabbage I bought at the weekend, and gravy with it for tonight :)
Still need to wrap last of the presents, hoover the stairs and dust bedroom furniture
    No spends today :T
  • Hello friends :D late post for me as been busy all day - luckily staying out of spending bother!

2 friends came over this morning for coffee, catch up & crafting :D great to see these lovely friends. Am going to make a real push to spend more time with them in 2019!

I tailored some trousers. All good but need an exact top stitch thread before finishing :D

was give 2 sewing bits of work by one friend and then later on another 2 by another :D so that's maybe £40 worth of work to do something I'd do for free :j

one friend brought fruit loaf and butter so have eaten that all day

have tidied up, watched the house descend into chaos, tidied up ad infinitum! And so it goes in our house....

    2 loads of washing

    Still to do:

    * onepoll
    * tidy bedroom
    * wrap last of presents tonight
    * hang up 2nd load of washing when it ends
    * knitting - did not get anywhere near the heel yesterday! Situation becoming dire! Thinking these are going to be a late gift for dd!
    * If only I could drag myself away from sewing....

HK sorry to hear you're not well again, hoping it won't dampen your holidays x
