katskorner wrote:Just managed to find chicken thighs marked up at £1.22 per lb but 99p per lb on shelf edge plus legs of lamb marked at £6.69 per kg on packs but £5.98 per kg on shelf. I don't think my local tesco was too chuffed that I spotted it before they did - after a had purchased some - yummy. Would have looked for other things too but I have no room left in my freezer!
Popped into Tesco Middlebrook on Sat but no chicken thighs. Was v.disappointed, but needed some stuff today so decided to look out for the lamb offer. Imagine my delight to find 1 pack of chicken mispriced and loads and loads of lamb also mispriced. I hesitated a bit, but thought, heck, might as well go all out! Got 6 packs, paid and headed nervously to c/s.
Well... what a production! The c/s asst was like - you bought *all* that meat ? and wasnt best pleased when I smartly replied, its a special offer and I got the 6 you allow. She went off for 10mins then called the duty manager who kept me waiting for 20mins while he checked it out. He then tried to wiggle out of it saying that the ticket had "bigger pack, better value" on it and the lamb packs did not!
I was hungry and pee'd off by this time, so I said, well, thats not my problem, its mispriced. He then accused me of checking POS or summat! He got the meat manager down who said, werent you here last week ? (Beef brisket) and I said, So ? I shop here all the time! (I do, really
) He basically tried to embarrass me into accepting the difference in price, so I threatned to call head office. The cheeky c/s asst then claimed it was at the managers discretion to refund! I was getting quite loud by this point, and pointed out the TESCO PROMISE (thanks to Ben500 I stood my ground)
Boy were they p***sed off! They reluctantly refunded me, almost 40mins after I arrived at c/s. Wanted my name and addresss claiming it was policy when refunding over £20. Said I wanted to see that policy in writing, so she tutted and wrote customer refused on the slip. Then she wanted to keep my receipt. Id bought other things so I declined. She looked ready to bite my head off when I suggested she photocopy it and keep the copy! I might have gone too far when I asked for a copy of their complaints procedureShe claimed not to have a copy, and I should drop a letter off - yeah right! Eventually, she wrote out the c/s number for me, if looks could kill!
I was a little embarrassed cos they tried to make out I was doing something wrong and tried to act like I was suspicious, but I pointed out that TESCO made the price promise, not me!
As I was waiting for the manager, they were making frantic calls to other stores and they even asked the gaurd for the CCTV footage! I am a teeny bit worried about that and I think they will be watching out for me, especially as they lost almost £100 today....

THIS IS COMMON PRACTICE!---->

Whoohoo good on you!!
BUT
Don't forget you have a right to a copy of that tape also, and why not ask for a full and final search of their records while your at it as is your right under Data protection act, they can charge up to a massive £10 for this and it will take them about 24 man hours to carry out do the maths on that! I know they don't pay their staff much but you can bet it will bite, and at worst it will cut your profit down to a measly £90 on the day. Now I know how I would feel if one of my staff caused me this much hassle especially if they were acting outside the bounds of their authority and doing so to cover up their own negligence at the same time, beat the bullies I say and hit em where it hurts UPSTAIRS!! You could always get Joanne Leith's details from a previous post (chardonnay I think)and go direct to her, she kicks !!!!!!!Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
Another tip you don't have to give your name and address, if you are a club card user and they have an ounce of intelligence they can get it if they want anyway, but ask your self why do they need your details to give you a refund of which they have the evidence in their possession, they don't they want your address so they can send you a snotty letter direct from the store asking you not to re-visit due to your "irregular shopping" what a blast I have had two of these in the past one from Asda so watch them too! There is nothing in their refund and replace policy to require you to give any information other than to demonstrate you have been overcharged. Just more budding little Hitlers trying to make things difficult, you can see their eyes turn green with all the envy because if they were to try it out they would probably be sacked, but what the heck you don't work there and you don't get discount, we all have to make ends meat!! You have my sympathy - I had a similar experience last year at Longton, Stoke on Trent.
I had bought six bottles of wine and realised, after paying for them, that I had been overcharged. This was not the first time at Longton, who appeared at that time to have experienced significant difficulty in meeting their legal obligations regarding pricing display legislation. They continued to overcharge for wine (shelf price vs checkout price) even after they were told about it, so I had no qualms about buying another six bottles. ( I subsequently spoke to Trading Standards and the advice there was that the store is commiting the offence, not the customer. However, they went on to say that the Tesco policy on refunds is voluntary - they don't have to do it).
Customer service kept me waiting for 20 minutes, whilst a series of managers were contacted, and CCTV footage was scruitinised. Eventually I got the refund for the overcharge, in line with the Tesco policy clearly stated on in the store, but it was certainly with great reluctance, as if I was the problem, not the store.
However, I was subsequently tackled by the store security manager, who then banned me from the store, saying that they had had problems with customers switching price labels.
He agreed that this was not the case in this instance (otherwise I would have sued the socks off Tesco), but went on to say that the store was entitled to ban anyone it liked, without giving a reason.
So, the filling of boots may not be the best tactic for the longer term if it results in a change of policy.0 -
I got two legs of lamb today and c/s had to refund me £25.60. She was ok but i did stand quietly and look inoccent!
Good for you standing up to these c/s i have come across some real hittlers just lately and they certainly make up their own rules!0 -
Also when i do this i would'nt want to go over board, as 2/3 is normal but 6 they know that you know it's a misprice so that's what peed them off so much.
But well done for standing your ground0 -
Well done Bolton Minx - any chance of an invite will bring the mint sauce!
ben500 - you make me die! I would love to watch you in action in Tescos - perhaps you can do your famous passing back your coupons in the queue, wouldn't even have to pay for the mint sauce then.
Sad aren't I - but I do enjoy a bargain or even better - a freebie. Chance my arm tomorrow.0 -
lol. freezers full so i wont be "bothering" them for a while! Dont care if they ban me, ive got 2 other tescos to go to, an asda and a sainsburys, so Im not all that fussed"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

If it were me I'd be on to Watchdog straight away - and the Money Mail as well - and buy shares and go to the AGM to give the Board a load of stick too.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
