Thriftygifty said:A few years ago I bought some huge metal storage jars/cannisters... They were ex display/used coffee bean storage containers from Whittards tea/coffee shop, they were subsequently put in the loft, I stumbled across them the other day. Firstly how should I clean them, they have the impregnated smell of coffee in them and also what should I store in them? Or should I just sell them.
I've used a little fridge ozone deodoriser to remove smells from things in the past. I got it to keep the veg fresh for longer, but it's great for freshening things up too. About £8 from the big river website.

I dont go into shops but get online weekly - the choice of stuff is seriously shrinking but might just be them streamlining the home shopping to save too many subs.,-Report
I was in Tes.. the other day and saw that flour was going off the shelves again, and it's gone up in price for the home brand too. I usually go to Lids but that means a trip to to the town and we sat rural so unfortunately Tes is on the way to work. HOWEVER i have found that some shelves especially olive oils, mayo etc the jars and bottles are all put neatly to the front in a line but nothing at the back of them?
Re Prep we do have a Genny which is used sparingly for the freezer when we have no electricity this has saved us so much regarding food as this past few months we have been off for many days each time. I bottle and can but it's mainly chutney and jams I would love to do more we are very fortunate to have a small cold room.10 -
It seems to be the smart price stuff that is disappearing the most. For example, the Asda smart price instant mash disappeared off the shelves weeks ago if you look online it just says unavailable. It is handy to keep in as a standby as it has no artificial colours or preservatives.9

Well, the supermarket was pretty well stocked. There were some empty spots, but the staff were busy refilling them, so think that was just the timing of my visit more than anything. A few things looked empty, but it was the first layer that had gone and as it was on the bottom shelf, no one had bothered (or perhaps wasn't able) to bend down and check the back of the shelf. Cue me, on my knees in the supermarket pulling forward the next layer of own brand salted butter 🤣🤣 fruit and veg well stocked. Still bargains to be had (carrots for 29p for example), but the vast majority of things have increased in price, or been subject to shrinkflation.February wins: Theatre tickets14

a week or so ago had to get on hands and knees to get to bottom of shelf to fish out last of icing sugar in Sainsb**ys! (not a pretty sight).
But yes its hit and miss in shops. Was reading yesterday how there will probably be a toilet roll shortage/massive price hike because the paper making industry is one of the biggest energy users and with rising energy prices decisions are being made to shut factories (italy according to article) or really hike costs to consumer. Also cat litter because its a bye product of wheat??
Cat and dog food, i have found, has never got back to pre pandemic/brexit levels , for both stock and price. The cat litter we buy used to be 9.99, went up to 12.99 and is now 15.99. I am going to have to think of an alternative if it keeps rising for our 3 indoor cats.14 -
O god I forgot cat litter, that's bound to go up. Didn't know about the bog rolls, thanks everybody.

And it's just occurred to me - what are all those folks with the designer bathrooms going to do? Won't a wodge of newspaper squares hanging from a nail on a string look a bit incongruous on their expensively-tiled walls? Will they just pass it off as some kind of ironic statement, or what?
Does the ink still come off from modern newsprint like it used to from the Mirror and IIRC the Racing Post?
So many questions ...We're all doomed13 -
