A few years ago I bought some huge metal storage jars/cannisters... They were ex display/used coffee bean storage containers from Whittards tea/coffee shop, they were subsequently put in the loft, I stumbled across them the other day. Firstly how should I clean them, they have the impregnated smell of coffee in them and also what should I store in them? Or should I just sell them.8

Baking Soda is good at absorbing smells, I often used it for empty Seeds of Change Pasta jars I used to stock up on and repurpose for my own sauces the bought ones were store cupboard on good offers and a few years ago that got us through tomato blight No idea about coffee but the jats lost their original garlic or other strong smell. We grow and use lots of Garlic but sometimes prefer making different veg sauces.pollyx

Thriftygifty - It may sound strange, but we use kitty litter to get rid of musty smells in books. You can try putting a little in each storage jar.9

Have you come across the Zero Waste Chef? She reuses jars a lot for storage, and recommends that, if they retain a smell after cleaning, that they be left out in the sun for a few days which apparently gets rid of any odour. Not much help at this time of the year in the UK, but might be useful in the future (hopefully)?

What's vanishing from the shops now? I dont go into shops but get online weekly - the choice of stuff is seriously shrinking but might just be them streamlining the home shopping to save too many subs.

I'm going to Morries later, so will keep an eye out. Though I popped in on Thursday just to grab DD a couple free world book day books, and noticed that the yellow sticker part was overflowing and a staff member was actively reducing it all further, so I grabbed a couple bargains thereFebruary wins: Theatre tickets10 -

It seems to be quite random here @MingVase. I do go into supermarkets again now, L*dl usually, occasionally Sains and very occasionally Waitr*se. L*dl often seems to have quite random large stretches of empty shelves, and our branch of Sains seems to have removed at least one aisle of shelving, creating a huge, new empty space near the entrance between the f & v shelves, and the f & v itself often looks a bit old and tired, whereas they were great for these products formerly. On the grocery shelves there are often large spaces at the back, with one row of items carefully lined up at the front of the shelves. I haven't noticed much change in Mr W, but ours is quite a small store.
