exactly a example is the Hepatitis A ( travel vac) .a single dose will give protection for about a year ,if you have another dose 6-12 months later it should be lifelong ,when it first became available it was reckoned 5 yrs then as more data was produced was said 10 yrs ,then just before I retired (11 yrs ago) was told lifelong .
as more data becomes available as it is in use longer ,then more will be known . This is a new vaccine only been in use less than a month please give the scientists a chance and the government too .18 -
Sayschezza said:Surely it is better to vaccinate as many as possible with the first dose. Even at 25% effectiveness it will slow down the spread until a full programme for everyone can be rolled out. From our world-class test and trace systems to our thin Brexit deal. It’s only the other week that news of the first vaccine was met with such positivity yet before the year was out it seems to have disintegrated into a pigs ear17

Be grateful there IS a vaccine, in fact so far 3 approved and being given also many more in trials because at the beginning of this it was dubious as to whether there actually COULD be a vaccine developed and if there hadn't be all we had to look forward was covid and long covid or death for quite a few people and if this mutation had happened before there were treatments, drus to help some people and the vaccine it might have been goodbye human race. However they choose to administer it to the population it's the only thing that's going to get this darned pandemic under any sort of control.13

Dear gods, Elaine, all strength!
My parents, both well into their 80s, are patiently awaiting their call up. When they've had both shots, we can start calculating how to get the grandsons they haven't seen in 11 months down to them.
It'll be getting the Apprentice time to self isolate before he sees them that'll be tricky. Largely as he's of the "I'm young & healthy, I'll be fine" school, although he does shower without prompting these days.
Meanwhile I am chafing at the No Costco rule (set by my anxious family) but have stashed some canned tomatoes & olive oil, a sport I plan to continue at until the supermarkets limit canned tomato purchases. (I did try to grow my own, but late & ineptly.)17 -
Health Secretary Matt Hancock tweeted, 'We start this new year knowing that better days are ahead of us. We have delivered ONE MILLION #coronavirus vaccines already - & with the approval of the Oxford jab will accelerate delivery from Monday.'
Call me a cynic, but where exactly have they been delivered? Just got into the UK, or actually into the arms of people?
My guess is that they just want a good news story regardless of how many people are actually protected. Months ago, there were supposed to be 4m doses of the Oxford vaccine ready to go; they are now talking about scaling up to make a million per week,
At that rate, it'll be mid summer before even the most at risk get two doses. It won't even allow the extremely vulnerable in group 4 to be included unless take up is incomplete in the over 70s, and health and social care staff. Unless they can scale up to 2m doses a week and actually deliver, we need to be realistic.
A bit like the Nightingale Hospitals, all fur coat and no knickers, certainly not qualified staff. Just this lot couldn't actually deliver anything competently. They screw up and expect us to be grateful?
Sorry rant over.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing20 -
Over 994,000 doses have been given - to over 80s, nurses, doctors, other associated health care & front line staff. The fact that the vaccine needs to be kept at extremely low temperature and the full batch must be used within a short period once defrosted isnot proving to be a huge barrier to the vaccination programme so far.
Oh, and Nightingale hospitals are staffed by knowledgeable experienced staff - the former Chief Nurse at my workplace was seconded to one before she took retirement and she's on standby to go back to it.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

MiL has had her 2nd dose cancelled - that's what i mean about her being in more danger. It is also very distressing for her as she does not cope well with changes of plan and does not understand. Being grateful that there is a vaccine does not preclude us from being concerned about its administration - especially without the relevant data.I wanna be in the room where it happens20

Thriftwizard, there is no "mentality". For there to be mentality, there has to be a system of cognitive thought processes. These people are plankton, the lot of them. One life - your life - live it!13
