I read an article the other day, about a US politician. Think he had recently been elected for his county, but not yet sworn in. Anyway, he was a big covid denial. Refused to wear a masks and encouraged his supporters not to. Wouldn't maintain social distance. Did a big campaign trail etc, basically carried on as if no pandemic. He caught covid. He got really ill. Admitted to hospital. Then started begging his constituents, who had already recovered, to donate their plasma to him. Not sure if he received any donations, but he died. Was only in his 40s and left behind a wife and 2 young children. Incredibly sad. As is the damage he did by telling his supporters it wasn't real etc, and God knows who he passed it onto before he was diagnosed. He left such devastation behind with his attitude, and as expected, he was begging for help once ill.
Sadly, that still won't convince any other deniars.February wins: Theatre tickets20 -
Not content with the chaos which will follow Brexit, the horror that is Covid, I see now that fate may bless us with another Beast from the East, due to SSW - sudden stratospheric warming is lurking again. It really bears the hallmarks of a perfect storm this winter, so just as well we are as prepared as we can be.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Perhaps the Beast from the East will put down enough snow for a long enough period to make the population stay at home and indoors for long enough to break this stranglehold the covid pandemic has on our necks at the beginning of the New year...that being the case maybe it's more a blessing than a curse?18

The Met Office says that SSW results in cold weather three out of four times. So still a 25% chance it won't bring a lot of snow. Plan for the worst but hope for the best. Most of us here are minimising our trips out for provisions anyway and if you do have to go out to work maybe order some Yaktrax so you can walk relatively safelyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!17

Last year I got stranded in Whitby for five days and much as I like the town in normal circumstances, it's not an experience I would wish to repeat so I have no plans to go anywhere other than walking locally for essentials. It is snowing hard here in North Lincs but I don't think it will come to much on the ground. If I were still living in Scotland I would be less optimistic!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I am well prepared for walking in snow having taken 5 hours to get home from work during a snowstorm whilst living in Holland some years back. Was frozen, and part of my journey relied on the kindness of strangers giving me lifts as far as they could. Whilst that story had a happy ending, I am well aware of how at risk I was and it is not something I ever want to repeat. I am now also quite happy to tell employers when I am leaving the office due to bad weather and no longer worry about their response. I don't do a job where people rely on me to the extent that me taking time to travel home, where I can then continue working, will have any ill effect.
As a result, I have snow boots, yak traks, snow shovel for car/out front of house, salt for outside front house, balaclava, thermal clothing and tights, thick socks, gloves scarves, trapper hat, etc, and sledges we could use to drag back any heavy shopping from supermarket if needed. Once bitten and all that.February wins: Theatre tickets22 -
It's not a choice sadly, we'll get what we get weather wise regardless of our feelings about it.13
