why be in pain when you don’t have to be? I hope it heals fully. 😃11 -
Daz, your employer should do an assessment to see what you CAN do when you eventually go back to work. They have a responsibility to your health and safety, so if you are still in pain, you should not be lifting patients! Take as long as you need to be well enough to go back. Talk to your GP and explain what your job entails. I'm sure they will be supportive. Take care.2025 Fashion on the ration

Look after yourself, Daz, or you can't look after your clients safely. Go back when it's properly sorted; rest until then.
One thing that made me sad yesterday: I was talking to my friend in the next town north, who helps out at their food bank. I told her about the giant pumpkin, then said I wished I'd thought to donate some of it. She said it wouldn't have gone. She often ends up taking donated fresh veg home (she's on benefits herself, which have been slashed to the bone despite her enduring mental health problems & quite genuine physical disability) because most of her clients have no space and no means of cooking things; if they're lucky, they have a microwave as well as a kettle, and even if they do have space & a working cooker, they may well be too worried about fuel bills to use anything but the hob. She's been lucky enough to have an understanding landlord who values her as a tenant although he knows she wouldn't be able to pay a full market rent for her little house & garden; most aren't that fortunate. Bit of a reality check for me... Can't help thinking we really should be making sure that everyone has the means to cook what they can; also that everyone has access to green space & fresh air in lockdown, as well as a safe roof over their head. And not to have to work when they're injured or ill. Revolutionary stuff, I know...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)23 -
Can you start an initiatie where unsused cookers in places that are shut are available for use?

The place I attend sometimes does special packs for people with no cooking facilities or very limited energy (fuel) to cook. I've been there when someone has come in desperate on Sunday am with no food in the house. One of the church leaders put together some cooked food from the fridge and some snacks for the family of five. You could tell the guy was almost overwhelmed.
And for some it's as basic as a tin opener making options possible, others have no utensils or equipment. And those that have some equipment don't necessarily know how to convert foodbank packages into edible meals.
Needless to say, recent demand for the hot meals and food packages has rocketed and people are queuing round the car park and beyond.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing19 -
It never occurred to me about the cooking facilities with regards to those using foodbanks, that's awful and really sad.17

I take it there must have been some kind of contretemps on here yesterday. Can we just get back on topic please?
It occurs to me that we probably need to start eating some of the preps from last time round, before they go too out of date. Though DS did eat a three years OOD can of tuna recently and it was fine.

This four week lockdown period will enable us to use some of our stores and get an idea of which items are needed and which are a waste of time and money. Don't know about anyone else but I feel sort of guilty about taking something from the stores, leaving a gap. Silly really, we have to give ourselves permission to use the stuff and not just hoard it forever. One life - your life - live it!15

I've been fairly good about replacing anything I take from stores . Once you get a system like that going it starts to feel more comfortable and you don't feel like you are running any risk by using your stores - as long as you do replace it the next time you go shopping and don't forget or, if you're like me, have a mean streak. It meant I didn't feel the need to join the scrum to stock up before the new lockdown given that all the supermarkets will be open anywayIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!13
