I don't add glycerine and it always turns out alright.14

Does it have to be silver spoon? Tesco do their own version and hobbycraft sells renshaw, another good brand and it is in stock.February wins: Theatre tickets13

One thing I've been noticing for some time is that foods which contain tomatoes (i.e not just tinned tommies themselves) are changing the insides of their cans even when well inside their BB dates. A mottled blackening is how I best describe it. Particularly noticable in baked beans, which are a comfort food I like to have on hand. I also saw that the BB dates on sardines in tomato sauce are shorter than on sardines in oil, so choose to store the latter. I also figure that oil is more calorific, which is a good think when food is scarcer, and means one could potentially fry the fish off a bit or use as a base for a stir-fry. Yesterday, I moved some of the stored sardines into the kitchen and will re-stock and add to the stash when next in a Liddly.
I tend to add the odd tin here and there to replace that which has been used but will also buy half-a-dozen of each if I happen to be with someone in a car when we're going to the supermarket. Food is surprisingly heavy if you have to tote it around yourself by hand or on your pushbike.Hoping Daz is getting better.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

If it's for icing biscuits you could thin down fondant icing with water. I saw that technique in one of Peggy Porschen's cake books. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!14

I always used to make my own royal icing, when I bothered with such things, and it was always fine. I have never bought it. However, I guess that perhaps using raw egg whites might put some people off. I assume the bought stuff would use pasteurised egg white?

Something that bubbled up in an online chat with an axe-throwing paramedic - as soon as anyone starts a fever, monitor the fluid intake (& how easy it is to pee). Go less on the "just a sip" angle, find what the casualty likes & hand it to them in 200ml doses (small teacup, 2/3rd of an average mug) & just stay there waiting to take the empty away. A fever won't notice overmuch how much is going down, but you as the healthy one can track it & keep them hydrated.
A covid medic was grumbling that after 5 days, patients being admitted were often borderline kidney function as they were dehydrated - so when counting paracetamol, think about near idiot proof squash, or (full sugar) cola (you can always dilute it) and ensure that's handy as well?
A couple of my lot want "a summer drink" when fevered - a bag of frozen summer fruits is an easy stash in the freezer & you can scoop out a handful, simmer it into a syrup, dilute it & get it into the patient. Then whisk the sweetened fruit into your own porridge or crumble or whatever - why waste it?!18 -
I have put by a few bottles of soft drinks and things like cloudy apple juice just in case one of us does get coronavirus. We rarely drink soft drinks but I know how important it is too keep hydrated.13

Hot dilute blackcurrent is my go drink when I've got a cold, as it's normally the only thing I can taste.£71.93/ £180.0013

Very good advice regarding hydration btw.
I for one can not drink any fizzy drinks, high colour squashes or anything with a lot of chemicals in it. Never have been able ever since I was a child, they make me feel sick, giddy and generally Bleurghhhh ( if that is a word!) Orange juice is my go to soft drink mildly diluted with lemonade but again I can only drink one of these. I found water with plenty of ice and slices of lemon is a refreshing drink. I like the idea of summer fruits from the freezer in some sort of non alcoholic cocktail although missing Pimms !!
