DigForVictory said:Is there any canny way of making a bed (sheets & duvet, but blankets available) so that it's more comfortable for someone with a fever? Anything under the bottom sheet? M'mother in law remembers being imminently due but not contracting & making up the bed with the usual blanket & sheet then a tarp, then another blanket & sheet. She went into labour, had the baby (my sister in law) in the bed & then the midwife stripped the top layer & tarp off & settled her comfortably back in her own clean familiar bed. (My eyes always cross, both at a home delivery & who washed the blanket let alone the sheet...)
I was thinking is an underblanket cooling? Or not? I do not fancy trying to sleep on a tarp, but the layers idea seems nice unless it doesn't strip cool & dry.10 -
Oh also reference the lack of baby formula particularly up country someone on one of the parent groups i'm part of said there is a post going around social media saying its the same powder that can be used in coffee, thats just beyond selfish, I really hope not many have actually done this. A family relative works in the maternity ward and she said the phone was constantly ringing from new mums saying they couldn't get formula earlier in the week.12

Keep it a secret!" 'I'm a stockpiler. Not a bargain hunter, not a panic shopper. A stockpiler. 'Me and hubby have been stockpiling for four years now ever since we had our first child,' Tiffany said in a Facebook group.
'I was extremely sick during my pregnancy and in hospital and out of work for 9 months meaning some weeks we could not afford food. That's when we decided to start stockpiling.
'This current stockpile has taken me four years to build up. No one has ever had a problem with it, until COVID-19 happened.'
Since the coronavirus pandemic, the mother said they family has been called horrible names such as 'selfish, disgusting and hoarders'."
"'People can be awful about it but it's taken me a long time to get a steady amount of stock that does not need refilling often. Believe it or not, the only thing I never stockpiled was toilet paper, now I can't get any."

People still don't get it do they? My elderly neighbour and her infirm husband are still running the 1/2 day a week village post office in their home. Yesterday I had a long distance chat with her over the garden wall. She thinks she is safe because she sanitizes all the surfaces. The possibility of air transmission seems to have passed her by.
I noticed she was looking a bit peaky and had a small cough. They are still doing a normal shop. Oh and her son and grandkid are coming from the other end of the country for a few days over the Mothers Day weekend....

unrecordings said:Jojo_the_Tightfisted said:Just stock. It's actually made by simmering kombu seaweed (the type that's a great source of natural MSG) and chucking in dried Bonito flakes. But for most of us heathens, a plain old chicken stock cube works fine.
Heat up stock/boil water and chuck cube in, stir and take off heat. (simmer mushrooms, add chilli, etc, if you wish, before this point) Gradually melt a blob of Miso paste into the now not boiling water. Chuck in sliced spring onion, frozen edamame beans, frozen peas, halved cherry tomatoes, etc. It goes well with salmon or prawns.

I woke up with the view to be more positive this morning.... It lasted less than 5 mins, husband did his serious/drama face of news update, scared me and left me with chest pains 2 small children and 37wks pregnant and casually went off to work. I'm starting to understand people saying divorce rates will go up!!18

Just been to Waitrose. It's like a flock of hungry old gannets demolishing the stocks. There is white bread flour in a pack I've not seen before, but no wholemeal.12

We've had our major argument, that was day two of isolation. We're now round day nine. All done & dusted within the hour, we're now back to being a super solid team, more so than ever before - even the cat is pitching in My advice, if I may: he's only trying to provide but needs to understand the risk. Sit down this weekend and talk about your fears. Figure out together how to address those health & monetary worries. Give each other space to think, and ration talk of apocalypse to when it's most convenient for both of you with clear heads. Research what you need to on the internet together. Good luck
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?15
