The Prepping Thread - A Newer Beginning ;)

Today we seem to have come together as a family after a couple of days of dysfunctional anxious feelings. The boys are working on sorting the sheep and cattle sheds and I have cleaned out the hens and planted a few veg seeds .The one nagging doubt I have is if my preps are enough. Have I missed anything that I will regret later. This crisis has developed to be a much larger and longer event that I had envisioned. When I heard about the virus early January I knew it would be bad but never imagined it would be such an impact on day to day life in the UK. I have a well stocked pantry, medical supplies and preps for initial isolation for at least two months. But as it is now likely to be a major economic disaster alongside the pandemic I am questioning what I need to think about after this initial period. We run a ground work business whose work will no doubt dry up , although we do have a farm and a couple of rental properties. Will our tenants be able to keep up with their rent if their jobs disappear? Maybe I should concentrate on the initial problem facing all of us but I can’t help looking forward and thinking about the nexts plans and preps. Any thoughts?

That's really worrying about your elderly neighbour Pineapple. Please don't anyone underestimate how easy it is to get airborne. I got it and I constantly wash hands/use hand gel and am very conscious about not touching my face. I am sure I got it airborne. I don't know for 100% sure I have it as you can't get a test unless seriously ill in hospital so I hope they bring out a widespread antibody test soon. If I had that and it proved I had immunity then I would be more useful in the next few months to the local community.15

Any thoughts?I would start thinking of the ways that the economic side of things could impact on your life. Have you got an idea of what you would do if your money runs out. Do you need extra farm workers, how will you pay them, do you sell your stuff or keep it for you, where do you sell it, is that income stream going to dry up and that sort of thing. Can you live without your tenants income?. How can you mitigate it if you can't.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10

I think the worst thing I have read is that people are buying baby formula to put in hot drinks! Can't they see the damage they are doing? We don't have any littlies in our family at the moment but I am making sure I put nappies and toddler food in the food bank when I go out or get my son to do it for me.Slightly bitter11

That is absolutely shocking Dianne!! Some people are so selfish. They should feel guilty every time they have a brew.11

Most of my tenants are carers, so hopefully they will always find a job.I suggested on landlordzone that anyone whose tenants asked for help, should maybe let tenant pay 50% of rent for the time being, as there will be benefits in due course with some allowance for the rent. Then when tenant is employed again, I would ask for 125% of rent until the previous debt was paid off.9

I'm lucky enough to have a packet of dried milk in, as well as a coffee mate, so if I can't get any milk he will have that and I will drink black tea, but the thing that has got me today was the lack of lady product's! Thought outside the box and was lucky enough to be able to get a box of extra long panty liners.£71.93/ £180.009

Absolutley right regarding the home birth (tried to quote but I seemed to end with loads of them), my lovely daughter-in-law gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at home in the living room on Wednesday. They were amazed at the speed and efficiency at which everything was cleared up and they said it ended up tidier than before.12

Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)
