I've trundled round several shops this morning for myself and another family member. I did have to smile at the people complaining there was nothing in, when the fruit and veg seemed plentiful. Ok the store cupboard staples weren't all there, but there was enough that no one is going to imminently starve if they're willing to eat something that doesn't come out if a packet.

Not that it'll actually do much good, but ...

There are no oranges (or much other fruit) to be had in Waitrose, Iceland or Lidl across from me. In Waitrose I use the self service checkouts, and had to call an assistant to reset the till. The woman before me had rung up about £15 worth of things, but not swiped her card. I wonder if this was deliberate?

We also had our lovely greengrocer on the market and he's kept his prices the same as before all this started which was good to see.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I'm well under 70 and in good health but don't drive so can't volunteer to shop for the housebound. We live a mile from the nearest shop.It seems Tesco are limiting items to three per person. The woman in front of me had a bunch of six bananas. The cashier split it in half. I was a bit worried as to whether she'd split my bag of sprouts.Slightly bitter10

This situation won't be forever y'know?we've a long and hard path to tread but it WILL end one day and we'll all make part of a new normality. What we have to do now is be flexible, the situation changes almost every hour and it makes for nervous fractiousness because it's going so fast it's frightening and we're all as unsettled as hell. Hard to believe but there will come a day when the number of people who have had the virus and survived will be greater by far than the number who haven't and hopefully in that time a vaccine will be developed and made in quantity enough for all who need it and lessons learned on the treatment of this virus will make treating new cases more likely to have a good outcome, it will be found which drugs are most effective and all this together will bring the pandemic to a close. We have to take the long view and do what needs doing now without all the resistance to it to make the time as short as it's possible to do. If we don't do as advised this may drag on far longer than it has to!14

Thank you everyone!I realise I must just step back and let them get on with it. My dad may get through to her that she is being selfish, but I doubt it! I think the only thing that would stop her going out so regularly would be a law passed limiting personal journeys and enforced lock down. I doubt this will happen anytime soon in the uk but part of me wishes it would if only to curtail the idiots! Enforced shutting of all but essential shops would stop my mad step mother spreading the risk further than is necessary.

I had to go out today, pick up script and minor detail of putting some money in the bank [ I normally get paid in cash even though I do have a card reader], so called in at the local co-op, mushroom's were the only veg left, was about 20 small loaves left and not much meat.
What I have seen is the rate of infection in China is slowing down, which is good news.

I've stopped following the news so closely as it was beginning to really get to me. One of my brothers, and one of my sisters are now both out of work. Luckily both have a cushion to fall back on, but I don't know how long for. So I am looking for the positive in things instead.
We ran out of fresh milk this morning, so using our long life stuff. Looking forward to a delivery of fresh stuff in the morning, from milk & more! I hope it arrives!

I just had a look at Milk & More to see if I could order some things missing from the supermarket. It's quite shocking to see whole sections of the website (fruit for instance) have a red banner across them saying 'not available'. I begin to wonder if I was on to something about the U-boats.
