Speaking from the perspective of Ocado deliveries, all our groceries are still bagged in plastic bags, normally I return them to the driver for recycling but now that is off the menu. They leave the bags outside under the back porch. We placed a plastic topped table outside and me and DP go out to 'process' the items after delivery. All plastic bags into a bin liner and thence to the shed for the foreseeable till we're able to recycle them again. Items then divided into 3 groups: freezer, fridge and shelf. Fridge items placed straight into the fridge which we've classed as a 'likely contaminated zone'. Shelf things like milk bottles are thoroughly washed in soapy water before being dried and stowed away. Other shelf items in cardboard packaging go on a 'decontamination' shelf where they sit for about a week without being touched and are hopefully ok at the end of that. It's all so woolly, not really knowing. Then we do a thorough cleaning of the table, kitchen bench and ourselves, plus door handles, bin where touched, etc. Anything later used out of the fridge, it's a case of wash and then wash your hands well afterwards.Thriftygifty said:
I'm not sure if the items would be in bags though as they scrapped using plastic bags, so everything would be loose. As far as i'm aware they are no longer to go into peoples homes and have to leave it on the door step to protect the delivery people as well as the customers. However I would advise your parents cleaning the items. Mine are leaving a garden table out the front with an oil cloth cover on for the delivery guys to put the stuff on.chirpycheap said:
Very many elderly people aren't able to shop online. I am adding my parents groceries to my own online shop so that the limit of two items means we can only have one per household. I'm wondering if I should book a separate slot for delivery to mum and dad's house but how is delivery to houses that are socially distancing working? Do they leave bags on the doorstep so that my parents don't have to have contact with the driver?Si_Clist said:So OK ... apparently the supermarkets are going to prioritise home deliveries for the elderly. Nice idea, but have any of them explained how on earth they're going to make that work?

This tickled my fancy a few weeks ago, pre-isolation.3secondmemory said:I was thinking of investing in a Kelly kettle or a wood burning samovar if I was going to be isolating at home over the summer. It’s quite nice in the evening to sit round the fire and watch the sun go down. Plus tea!

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?8 -
I only started this online delivery palaver a few days ago It seems there is information on the various supermarket websites on how they deliver. In general looks like they knock on the door, or maybe text you when they're outside expect you to open the door, then they take a couple of steps back leaving the delivery outside - no details though, my first delivery is still a couple of weeks away. I've still got my gran's old folding legs playing cards table festering in the workshop so I might re-cover that with some heavy duty vinyl I just happen to have lying around and use as a temporary quarantine table in the porch

Sorry I just need to vent. A neighbour who I thought of as sensible and who has kindly offered to get things for me, just put something out on facebook calling for pubs and businesses not to close and 'Let's have secret lock ins, don't tell Boris shh...' It's in poster format. Don't know whether it is doing the rounds or whether she thought it up herself or whether she means it as a joke. But we don't need ideas like that circulating.

I just spoke to my mum to discuss how to deal with her online shop. She’s putting her laundry baskets outside, wearing washing up gloves to bring everything in and wash it, then disinfecting the gloves and putting everything away. Her online shop has items missing, so neighbours are helping out - she needs to treat all of this the same way, and I need to remind her. I also need to remember to be more careful myself as although i’m not seeing people, I forget about the packaging - so everything needs to come in via the back door from now on.8

Alll this cleaning and disinfecting takes some getting your head round. I had a coal delivery yesterday and only just thought of cleaning the coal bunker catch/lid as well as where visitors touch the garden gate

I use Tosscos a lot as they are the only ones who let me have one account with 2 addresses and 2 cards (mine and mum's) - I just have to switch details ('home' and 'mum's'). I do all my mother's shopping and have as much online as possible as arthritis in my right shoulder has made it increasingly difficult to put things in and out of a trolley (ache for days afterwards). Most of the others I have to use my email for mum's stuff and my son's gf email for the home based account (DS3 and his gf live with me). Nowadays most of the time, I go into my home account and find a part loaded trolley, full of the things they want (saves time rather than me having to ask repeatedly and I do reserve the right to deselect stuff - it may not be stuff I would use/choose but it's healthier and cheaper than them using the takeaway which they pay for themselves)chirpycheap said:

A store cupboard essential for me is miso soup paste – I add a lot of chilli, pepper or Dashi for extra bite, and the probiotic content is supposed to be really good for people with gut or immune problems.unrecordings said:
