I've now removed DS from nursery, they have so many things going around I wanted to get him germ free before potential lockdown / new baby due very soon. I'm getting increasingly concerned as my due date approaches as to where I will have this baby if the hospitals are going to be as bad as expected.euronorris said:We are in SW too thrifty. Following the latest guidance, we are now isolating for next 10 days as DD developed a cough Wednesday. I only made it into the office for one day, having only just started to feel better myself over the weekend. I will have to swing by the office briefly tomorrow to collect the spare laptop, but after that I will be working form home for a while.
Very glad to have plenty in stock
I went on earlier and the first slot for T was 1st of April for del. I managed to get a CC for next Monday but who knows what will be in stock with it being a Monday.Si_Clist said:Just went on the Tesco website to book a delivery a week Wednesday, and almost everything we wanted to order is not available. So it's going to be Plan B then. I wonder what that's going to be ...

Talking with my SiL earlier, the "panic-buying" is still going strong down here, two weeks since we first noticed it. I'm beginning to wonder; are people really just rushing out & snapping stuff up out of anxiety & a need to feel in control of something at least? Or are they converting every last penny and/or line of credit into hard supplies, in case they don't get paid or there isn't any work available? I'd find the latter a lot more understandable...Angie - GC Nov 25 £340.86/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)12

Looking at what is being bought, Pot Noodle, canned pasta etc, not all panic buyers are making shrewd money saving choices. Whereas the chap with two pallets of dog food and a sack of oats struck me as having clear priorities. The official word has gone out - Scouts are not to meet face to face for the foreseeable. Guides likewise & intriguingly they’re not to presume everyone has internet access.Have spent several minutes wrestling the router into the new decade, I was only pushed to this by my menfolk whimpering. I suspect low level addiction, as they were Snappish, which from the so laid back he’s almost comatose son was a shock!10

I also think part of the problem is that a lot of people just don't/didn't have food in their cupboards as they use to so are starting from scratch with supplies.thriftwizard said:Talking with my SiL earlier, the "panic-buying" is still going strong down here, two weeks since we first noticed it. Maybe they’re thinking of what they can make whilst ill and not feeling up to much? Though pot noodles don’t exactly provide much nutritional value... we have got a couple of veggie tinned ready meals in for this reason though. If OH gets man flu, let alone Coronavirus, I know he won’t be capable of anything else 😜DigForVictory said:Looking at what is being bought, Pot Noodle, canned pasta etc, not all panic buyers are making shrewd money saving choices. My DS2 is still in his room he rents near his uni. The uni has shut, he lives alone, and hasnt much food. I said i would pick him up tomorrow and all his belongings as he is finished now. He said not to because he can’t be bothered to get ready at such short notice. I explained that if they have a full strict lockdown i might not be able to come later. He says he will cope. DH attitude is “He’s an adult, its his problem” It breaks my heart when DH says stuff like this. Yes DS2 is 22 but as his mum I want to be able to nurse and feed him if he gets ill. Imperial college have said this is going to be as bad as the 1918 Spanish flu. I hate that I can't give them all a great big kick up the backside and get them to take proper care of themselves14

Delurking to say a big thank you to all on this thread. Working at home from yesterday for the foreseeable, as I’m lucky that 95% of my job is online and so can be done remotely. Went into our local small Mr A yesterday and as expected there were no loo rolls, paracetamol, pasta or UHT milk. Met a lady who was hovering around the medicines who told me that she just needed some calpol or paracetamol for her daughter who was unwell. It’s made me think twice before I pick anything up off the shelves. Do I need this really? I now try and imagine a vulnerable person being the next to look at the shelf before I get anything. Our local big Mr A used to be 24 h, but is now closed between 22:00-07:00 so that they can properly fill the shelves, and so people don’t ransack everything overnight.
Hope everyone is keeping safe and well xEvery act of kindness, no matter how small, isn’t wasted ❤️

I, for the first time this morning, had the thought that this social distancing we're doing isn't so much a cage of restriction as a safe haven, it's made a great deal of difference to my mood and emotions. We are waiting for the workmen to arrive to finish the job they started yesterday and then I shall bleach clean the entire area and anti viral wipe ann the surfaces they're likely to have been in contact with. We will steam mop the tiled floors as much to pick up the brick dust as to kill germs, we will probably have to do that a few times for a clean result. We walked as it got dark last night to our allotment and picked some rhubarb, then dropped enough for a couple of meals to our friend who has leukaemia and is on shut in, left it on the front doorstep and texted her it was there as she's already missing fresh food. We hope to be able to continue our safe walks out but time will tell if we are able to.
I'm seeing my home as a citadel today not the Bastille! much better place in my head!

Anybody know what's going on with Tesco online ordering? I went on the site last night, got a slot booked no problem, but just about everything I was going to order is "not available". OK ... I'm fine with stuff being out of stock now, but I don't want it now - I want it next week! I don't get why I can't just place the order now and hope it's in stock next week, which after all is pretty much how things were before all this virus lark ...

The same thing has happened at my husbands work. Lady was in last week feeling ill - had various meetings. She was then off sick and had an ambulance to her who said they are 99% sure she has Coronavirus but no testing kits on board and they will send her one. She is back to feeling better and never got the test done (as Boris changed it to only people in hospital). Since then more and more staff in the office have gotten ill and are off (only one person has been tested - awaiting results!). No deep clean has happened and the whole office is still expected to go in and work. Its a disgrace. Luckily my husband was at home for some of the days on leave but the fact they are still open (and in a whole building that usually houses 6 or 7 different firms only his and one other are still there). They all have the ability to work from home but the management have said no not until they HAVE to! They all travel in from various places as well on public transport!!!DigForVictory said:Meanwhile, I'm doing rounds with my conscience - I'm in a Manchester office & last week was training on new software. One lad has since reported developing "some flu like symptoms" & is self isolating. I found this out two hours ago & am wondering just how soon I should start working from home, (now, tonight) and whether I ought to go the full self isolation based on an email about a bloke who's normal lifestyle & habits I have no idea about. Do I dive into a hermitage as one lad's feeling ropey & quite fancies a week off (on the first sunny day we've had in Months - or am I being an utter shrew judging the poor lad), do I carry on but work from home - it's all a bit ticklish. Just shrugging it off is not an option. All the surviving grandparents have said flatly stay away (or left it for us to figure) so it's just me, husband & 2 lads but one's an apprentice & living away from home 4 nights a week & the other is on A level trajectory. So I feel fine but anxious & foresee that being the default for at least a week!
On another note - thank you to everyone who keeps this thread going and giving ideas. I wasn't prepared and was actually quite blase about it all - until recently when my parents and grandparent have to isolate (we've stayed away for the last few weeks anyways). Although I don't have lots of stock I think we can get by for a while. I shall prepare from now on though and when we can I will add additional items to my usual shop "just in case".
