I would like to know how they are going to police this imposed isolation? Will people be required to carry birth certificates? What about folks below 70 who have a health condition and are therefore vulnerable? How does that get policed? What about those of us who live out in the countryside? I live in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes the only people you see are farmers out on their quad bikes. I'm not quite at 70 but in any case I would still want to be able to take my dog out, plus outdoor exercise is needed for my lung condition. I can do that without being irresponsible and putting either myself or anyone else at risk. In fact I am already doing social distancing. So many questions.....Edit: Grant Shapps has just said people will be able to take out their dogs. Who knows...14

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?11 -
I know a 72 year old who is the main carer for her 95 year old mother. They don't live in the same village but the 72 year old drives over to her mother's several times a week. They go out to lunch at least once a week and they go to church together on Sundays. How are they going to manage if they have to stay indoors. A lot of the regular events such as lunch clubs and singing groups for the elderly are being cancelled. While I can see why this is being done many people who attend these events are going to end up being isolated and lonely.13

I'll take isolated and lonely over dead....This isn't something that's going to last forever so being prepared for a bit of no contact with people for a few months is better than potentially catching something that's potentially going to kill you. I'm saying at my age because I have underlying conditions. I don't know if I'd change my mind if I didnt, or if I was older.

Quite a lot of people reporting non-delivery of Ocado shopping deliveries, which is understandably upsetting if you're relying on that. I think they're over-subscribed even though currently they're not taking any new customers. As for self-isolating if you think you might have the virus, you'll never know if you have because now there's no testing outside the hospital setting. So if the police have powers to detain people if they have the virus, how will they even know? I can't make sense of that.9

I think I might need to get a dog...
They may not know whether we have the virus, but cough plus temperature = isolation. I've had mine for 2 weeks now, and have been told I have to stay put until my temperature is normal without medication. I've only been in isolation since last Tuesday as it hadn't occurred to me to take my temperature - I was working, not feeling great, but still able to work. I did keep well away from colleagues and warned people around me I was germy.
Yet another delivery driver today who was incapable of reading the note on the door and kept knocking. Even more irritating as I was actually presenting at the time - my conference had been moved from in-person to online.11 -
Well,
Got told last night 2 staff off with ‘symptoms’, but they won’t be tested even though we are nhs workers, yet some MP has been.....😡. A patient has been tested but come back negative.
I have cancelled my extra shift tonight, not due to covid-panic . Got an email from Mum this morning saying she only has 1 bar of soap in if she is forced into isolation today. I am like...... seriously.....what are you playing at woman 🙄🙀. So cancelled shift as will go down to hers tomorrow and check exactly what she does have. Naturally I probably have 7yrs worth of soap (as I used to collect soaps plus a bit of a hoarder) so could push any amount through her letter box as needed over the next 4 months.
God only knows how prepared she actually is, and I need to sort this out before next week when back at work as I possibly have a high chance of getting it. I don’t feel comfortable doing a shift, then going to hers with 2 staff off at the moment. She is asking me to show her to do online orders, which I will, but plan to just go down and buy it for her and clean it all before giving it to her, unless I am showing any symptoms. I will call on a friend who I am sure will get her things anyway, but need to have a conversation about it in case I get sick.
God I am getting fed up of this already and it hasn’t really even started yet. I am sick of the uncertainty, anxiety that comes with it. It will stop, just hope it’s soon.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.9 -
I want to know where people who flout the self isolation order and get caught are going to find the £1000 fine that my news feed has come up with.
Both me and OH are in the at risk group, both with asthma, high blood pressure and in OH's case yet more stuff, OH has got routine blood test and eye test booked, phoned to check and been advised to cancel, so we have done, the staff have enough on their plate's with emergency stuff, even though the routine stuff is important it's not urgent and can be done at a later date.
£71.93/ £180.008 -
"In an interview on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show, Hancock said asking the over-70s to stay self-isolated would be “a very big ask”, but that it was part of the government’s action plan because it would be necessary to protect them. He said this would be announced in the coming weeks."
From the grauniad. No mention of any fines. Other than in the other press saying "it has been reported that" with no names or identified reliable sources. I.e. making it up as they go along again. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.11
