I love growing stuff. I saw the comment on the other thread, and couldn't believe it. I have answered, but there has been no response. I have to wonder, where do they think the seeds come from exactly?!
Nevermind, I suppose we all had to learn it at some point.
My peas are sprouting in the garden. I'm keen to do more, but not well enough. The potatoes are chitting well on the windowsill, so will plant those soon.
Quick growing crops, if you're looking to dabble:
Salad leaves (pick some and it grows more)
Radish
Spring onions
Beetroot
I'm sure there are more, but those are the first that spring to mind.
If you want strawberries this year, don't grow from seed. Buy an established plant, preferably in its second year as it will produce more. And buy more than one. Oh, and try for an everbearing variety not a June bearing one, or you'll only have strawberries in June.
Don't forget you can forage. Garlic in late spring/early summer, and blackberries in late summer. Anything to add freshness to the diet if neededFebruary wins: Theatre tickets10 -
I get a sea of wild garlic near me. I seem to be the only one who picks it
Ditto for young nettle leaves - so long as they are not likely to have been peed on
I also grow loads of nasturtiums. Pretty to look at and you can eat them!

I saw the comment about the seeds on the other thread too, it's sad that people don't know about these basic things😟 I have tried growing veg in my garden but it's very shady due to lots of trees,I have chickens who always manage to find and eat everything that looks vaguely plant like and now resident badgers in the copse behind my house, they are mounting a siege on the front lawn at the moment but digging holes everywhere, luckily my front lawn is awful and I was thinking of getting rid of it, it's on a steep slope though so I'm not sure what to do with it, I did grow a lovely crop of Cherry tomatoes in pots in the front garden last year so could maybe adapt the front for veg 😊Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8949

Growing up we used to call that stinky weed. I'd have to be paid an awful lot to eat that stuff!

I love the stuff, you can steam the leaves or use them to wrap baked fish.
I’ve got some interesting books from the library on foraging and container gardening. Up till now I’ve gabbled or had help, this year I’m serious and I’m on my own!
