It is saying on the news that we are probably 10 - 14 days away from the start of the peak.
I can't find the original article I read about the expected timeline but I think they originally said they would expect the peak to last around 3 weeks in which they will see most of the cases and then I think it said 90% of cases would likely be over a 6 week period. Does anyone know where I read that as I can't find the info now and want to double check the statistics.
If that is correct we would have had most cases by middle/end of May but I have heard lots of experts saying the peak would likely be in full flow end May/June. I know it is all guesswork even with the experts but I am just wondering if anyone will be travelling again for holidays by the end of May. My DS has a school trip abroad then and I know some of you said you had holidays planned especially Euronorris who mentioned a long awaited trip planned.10 -
I dropped my son at nursery this morning and they said they have had a case of chicken pox, I now need to look into supplies incase this hits our house and we are stuck as other son will get it at same time, which then lead me to worry that parents are at risk of shingles. I admit I did actually breakdown and cry in the middle of the nursery, highly embarrassing but also 8m pregnant and final straw.
I also read that it would peak in May, im getting tge garden stocked with activities/supplies - play sand, compost, charcoal for bbq, suncream anything that doesnt require us leaving our mini bubble fortunately we have enough space to keep the kids entertained. I did read about the latest person who died it made sad reading that his family weren't with him as they were self isolated, it hadn't dawned on me this would be the case.11 -
Baggins they don't know - they're just saying anything they think of. I wouldn't think school trips will be back on by the end of May. I wouldn't be going on holiday either.
The secret to prepping is to be ahead of the wave, not in it. As soon as you see a situation developing, move right away, don't "wait and see what happens" - because by then you'll be running to catch up. Wuhan kicked off around New Year, and FluTrackers were talking about it a week later. This is now nearly mid March...Anyway on a lighter note I have been trying to cheer us up while we are in siege mode. Victorian Nursery Cake and a big tray of flapjacks. Very very syrupy flapjacks..16 -
That's a very sad thought Thrifty, and probably the harsh reality of dealing with this. His poor family must be heartbroken.
For anyone looking for some good news I did read a lovely article earlier about the oldest person to survive the virus - he is 100 years old and has other health issues but has got through it and just been discharged.14 -
I know you lovely lot on here already donate regularly to food banks, just a reminder to anyone else reading to try and donate if they’re able.
Donations are down 25% in some areas, and they’re particularly short of uht milk and cereal, which are food parcel staples x11 -
Can anyone point me somewhere that I can track what is going on? I have family in Italy who are in isolation and they seem to think we are about 2 weeks behind them?I thought it was more like a month but can't work out the stages properly?

Yes @baggins11 we are due to go to florida 9th May. We would rather not travel, but we can't afford to just lose the money, so we're holding out. Either it a) wont get as bad as expected and we'll go or b) the FCO will advise against travel/airlines &/or disney will cancel and we'll get our money back, potentially via insurance.February wins: Theatre tickets9

ETA: the plus side being that if we get our money back we have a good cushion of money to fall back on.February wins: Theatre tickets10

I agree with being ahead of the way. I had already started planning bulking up last year – I’ve now got catering size coffee sugar tea et cetera stashed away. I had a lucky break this morning I had to pop into the newsagent and I picked up five tins of Safeway tomatoes in there for 10p each.I am continuing to scout for cheap perishable food to eat now and not intending to touch my stash until it’s no longer possible to go shopping.9
