I am in shock at the lack of awareness of what the coronavirus might mean to the UK amongst my fellow volunteers in the shop, goodness me I was looking through the donated paperbacks for a few to take home and read if we get a shut down and there was a little ripple of 'what's likely to cause us to be shut down' and when I said recommendations for the over 70s due to coronavirus the response was' Oh that, not going to happen though is it, I wouldn't worry if I was you' aaaaagghhhhhhhhh! and aaaaggghhhhhhh again! I really wonder how many people think this is not going to happen and done nothing by way of stores or planning, it's frankly terrifying!19

One of our volunteers in the charity shop where I work told me that "all this hand washing" was a waste of time as the virus was air borne! He'd made the tea earlier that morning which rather worries me.Quite a few of our volunteers are over seventy-they are probably the most reliable volunteers. We do have a few others who are on universal credit and really struggle to manage financially so don't have much in their food cupboards.10

Hello all, I hope you don't mind me posting. I've been reading along for a while, taking in snippets of ideas and advice. We have just returned from DH's oncologist appointment. The oncologist thinks that this virus should be gone in 4 months, so here's hoping. However his advice to us was to isolate and stay away from public places and gatherings eg pubs, cinemas, busy shopping centres etc. ( DH also has other health issues as well as the cancer and his age so is very vunerable). I will do a last shop tomorrow and will go first thing before it gets busy. I always stock up for the winter but I have been upping my stocks lately, so hopefully we could stay indoors for at least 2 months. After that meals could be interesting to say the least, unless there is still online shopping available. Perhaps this advice from a senior health worker may help someone else.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently17 -
The BBC news has just said the WHO have recategorized the coronavirus as a Pandemic.8

I'd just like to de-lurk for a moment to thank you all for sharing your experience on these threads over the years. It's been invaluable in helping me build up my preps thoughtfully.
I'm somewhat prepared now, not much, but what I do have is still a source of relief. I can feed us for a month (before meals start to get wierd!) I'm keeping out of the scrum and not competing for things that the shops are short on, and I have what I need to look after my family at home if we get a mild case.
I would love to believe The Donald - that this thing will suddenly dissappear "like a miracle" - here's hoping hey?! In the meantime, thanks again for the advice x13
