It is generally only larger post offices that allow you to pay cheques into bank account. At my local PO you can only pay in cash
  • That's not right at all.! They should all do ! Size is no issue

All the post office does is put your cheque in an envelope and send it to your bank, so there's no reason why small post offices can't offer this facility. They don't actually pay the cheque into your account there and then at the counter.

Anyone know when RBS/NatWest will support this in their app? They surely will in time, can't believe it won't be on the roadmap.

I tried to use the Halifax app to scan a cheque and I couldn't get the imaging software to work at all. I could take a photo with the camera on my phone and it was completely readable but all the photos the app took were fuzzy and unreadable. I gave up and just took the physical cheque into a branch.

I've just recently switched to HSBC and tried to deposit a cheque via imaging on app but despite uploading clear images it kept saying there was a problem and that I had to pay cheque in at branch

I have used the cheque imaging facility on the App twice before, with no problems apart from being a bit fiddly to get a decent image. However, have tried twice today, getting a really good
image for once but when I pressed 'Deposit' it wouldn't go through, just told me to deposit in branch.

I queried this via FB and they mentioned rebooting my device (nope, no joy) or paying in at PO; the latter is doable but hardly quick:(
Since most branches round here have been closed, I would have hoped their aim of forcing us all online could at least be supported by efficient systems

Cheques can only be paid in through the mobile app if the cheque is from a bank which also supports cheque imaging. When the Halifax first introduced the system I tried to pay in a NatWest cheque and it was rejected because NatWest didn't support it, -I got a message on the app giving this reason. However, another cheque from a different bank (I can't remember which) was accepted without any problems.

That was a few months ago, so I don't know whether or not NatWest cheques would now be accepted.

I have been with RBS for similar length of time and so far have found them fine - though shame the nearest branch has closed as they were a v friendly bunch and sorted out many things for me. That branch was 20 miles away so I had a local building society account and use that to put cheques in and transfer them online when needed

I paid a NatWest cheque (£399.17) into a BoS account through the mobile app last month and it worked fine.

Somebody asked about NatWest and RBS implementing mobile cheque deposit. I was in contact with their online chat (a person not a computer) who assured me that it is something they are actively pursuing at present and will launch when it is ready.

I have been using HBoS for mobile cheque deposit for months and it is usually easy. Tried HSBC and B (Clydesdale) but they are bit fiddly and also do not allow one to input an identifying reference. I now only use HBoS for it.
