Hi does anyone know if we will need a visa to enter the states for two weeks as i've been told you need the new passports with the biometric chips on it, my mates passport and mine was issued in 2002 so does not have it

apologies if this has already been asked

    thank you!

My understanding is that yes, you will need visas.

    have a look here
    http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/niv/mrp_bio.html

If you need a visa, the application fee is currently $131. Renewing your passport costs £72. For the sake of a fiver's difference I'd get the new biometric passport, save faffing about with a visa application, and you've got it sorted for the next 10 years and 9 months!

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end
    MFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
    2021 £1250.00, 2022 £1500.00, 2023 £1500, 2024 £1350
    2025 target = £1200, YTD £9190

I think that you must have a machine readable passport for america. At the bottom of the page with the pic on it it has >>> and info between the >and<

I dont think it has to be biometric. But my dad has one and it has a chip at the back that you can see so it is really obvious that it has the chip in it.

Where does everyone buy there theme park tickets for disney and universal at before heading to uk,online or high street and whats the best places and prices.
We got a leaflet the other day says we could get 2weeks for the price of 1 for disney for £165 per adult,is this a good deal or what.

Not that we be using 2 weeks of disney but it maybe handy and if its what they say you get an extra week for the price of what the one week would be.

But you can only do this if you have a qualifying passport!
(That's the point of the original post!)

This is what it says on the US Embassy website:
"Visa free travelers, including children, entering the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) require individual machine-readable passports (MRP). This requirement has been in place since October 26, 2004.
If the passport was issued, renewed/extended between October 26, 2005 and October 25, 2006 it must contain a digital photograph."

Agree, my wifes passport was issued in 1998 and she got in with no issues late last year and every year before that with no issue.

That is about the standard price for a 2 week only ticket most places so not a great bargain and 7 days is not much less most places. I would certainly buy the 14 days as that way you can pop in at night just for the fireworks at Epcot or MK if you have spent the day elsewhere rather than trying to work out the best way to spend your days if you only buy the 7 day ticket.
  • Definitely not on the high street, I believe they tend to be vouchers that have to be changed to tickets once you have arrived. There are plenty of recommendations on the Dibb. Not sure if I am allowed to name names but there are places that price match and I have mine booked for 2009 at 2008 prices with a 20% deposit, prices go up I'm safe, prices go down I get them cheaper and real tickets issued.
