Thats another blow.
Puts Travel City Direct out of the reckoning!
Cannot see qutie so many Sales coming from Virgin and BA now.
I went with TCD twice and neither time had problems.
Who's next?
Should get some good accommodation deals now!
I do not think this was insensitive at all. I think its healthy to share views and opinions on an open forum.
From what I have gathered this morning the XL issue is slightly better for travelers than the poor Zoom issue as XL are ATOL bonded so you will be able to get your money back. However getting your money back does not at all compensate for the heatbreak of losing a oliday espeically if its a once in a lifetime trip with your family.
My fear though in all of this is that air travel tot he USA and for me Orlando is now going to become so exspensive that it will be a barrier to me and others travelling. It already costs over £200 a ticket in tax, cahrges and fees and thats before you have booked a tcket. Even if you use airmiles for a free flight you will stil pay over 200 quid for the trip.
I looked yesterday for Virgin and BA flights for a four week period next July/August i.e. school holidays tneh they wanted 720 quid a seat for economy. BA and Virgin are already in teh docks over price fixing and it seems so strange that their air fares are always within a few percent of each other.
So all I can see is their prices getting dearer. I am not sure about accondomdation mind you. I know many other oweners of homes in Florida are thinking of selling as the dollar has dropped and they will get more for their money when they bring it home.
I kmow its hard but chin up to those of you with XL holidays booked. Maybe a Freddie Laker will come and take them over or rescue them or something?
Cheers

Alas re the fares I fear you are correct, BA and Virgin will tell you that is the lowest possible fare they can charge and shows that to be true as they both charge the same! Like in the School holidays!!
And remembering the Freddie Laker 'peoples airline' fiasco do not need another one of them thanks, but you are more than right a saviour is needed. Umm, I thought XL would be it.
Thinking off all the companies that have gone down it is worrying having visited at least once a year for the last 20 years I worry how I will get my next Disney 'fix' [Please dont mention DLP.]
I am very interested in the Aussie sites see how all that pans out.

I am really sorry this has happened to you, and I hope you do not think I was being insensitive to your plight, I dont think anyone foresaw this happening. But there were some pointers, thinking back. TCD disappeared from teletext. The XL emails stopped.
And as always I am very wise after the event!!Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
How the hell was that insensitive? It was trying to give the heads up as early as possible to people.
I think that some people just sit on their backsides wishing to find fault with others posts.
I am sure there are people 'involved' on this forum, they maybe able to get their money back and then rebook and search for accommodation, and recoup a little of their lost money.
I suggest before you make inane comments about people being insensitive you might look at yourself!
Some people might think "Should get some good accommodation deals now!" sarcastic as I did. Some people will not get a penny back.0 -

We only booked our Jan '09 Florida trip three weeks ago and XL was one of the tour operators we were considering. I'm so glad we went for Virgin in the end although its easy to say that in hindsight. To all those affected, I hope you get money back or another trip booked.Silentnight Bed, Babystyle Travel System, City iGo Headphones, Amazon Kindle, £50 iTunes Voucher, Jaeger Handbag, Fisher Price Baby Gym, Digital Waterproof Camera,
£50 Love2Shop Voucher, Product of the Year Hamper,
100ml DKNY Golden Delicious Perfume, Blackberry 9320

So much for the "Open Skies Agreement" which came into force this year. It was supposed to open up trans-Atlantic air travel and make it cheaper!0 -

I know its no consolation but I've flown to the states using both American and Continental. Although its an earlier departure and you have to change aircraft the flights get there around the same time and don't cost much more than charter airlines.
My friend heard the news after work this morning and has spent the day trying to rearrange his families December holiday instead of getting some well earned rest.
My heart goes out to everyone involved, lets hope it doesn't ruin too many holidays or honeymoon's
