    Hello,

I will be booking my 14 night Virgin holiday to Florida this week for September 2008 however I was wondering if somebody could answer a few questions I have about their 'free' car hire.

As I am 24 years old I understand I will have to pay the $25 /day surcharge totaling $350 for the stay. This seems much better than the £20+ /day platinum insurance Virgin offer.

    My questions are:
Is this the only charge I'm required to pay?
Would I be better of leaving this option and booking car hire elsewhere? (So far can't find cheaper for 24yo.

Do I have any other options?

I just booked mine through this site: http://www.usrentacar.co.uk/default.aspx
For a 24 yr old with the best insurance (I do recommend the "Gold package" - you can get a 4 door luxury car for £350 - of course if you want a 2 door small car then the cost is circa £190

Thanks everyone for your advise. I'm going to book using Virgins platinum insurance, however can someone confirm this will mean NO further charges at the Virgin-Dollar desk at MCO.

They will offer you additional insurances, such as tyre insurance and breakdown insurance, but you can refuse them and carry the risk. Theyll also offer you the opportunity to upgrade.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn Universal (Just off I Drive) three years ago and they offer a shuttle to Disney and Universal. Everywhere else we got a bus on I-Drive so you may not need a way to get around. Sometimes took a while to get anywhere though and you may want to get the early bus from the hotel to Disney rather than the later one - much less crowded!

Online before you go as the UK Disney tickets are a better deal than buying over there. No easy way of doing it, you need to do a search of all the websites, decide exactly what tickets you want as there are many variations then if you find say Disney cheaper on one and Universal cheaper on another see if the website will price match, many of them do.

Here are a couple to give you a start.

http://www.attractiontix.co.uk/universal-studios.asp are pretty good and you will get a discount if you access them via one of the cashback websites like http://www.wepromiseto.co.uk/Attractiontix

Buying Disney tickets over here is good if you want to do a lot of visits. We've been before and once at Epcot was more than enough for us :rotfl:

There are some tickets not widely advertised that you can get direct from Universal like the one I bought which is a 7 day unlimited ticket to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure for £45 each . Available at http://secure.universalstudios.com/webstore/shop/ViewItems.aspx?Merchant=UOMainOnline&CategoryGroupExternalID=UOMain&CategoryExternalID=UOTPTLive

Wet & Wild do a 14 day pass for the same price as one day admission $42.55 per person

The standard offering for us Brits in terms of disney tickets are the 7 day and 14 day ultimate/premium tickets - which includes park hopping and loads of other bits. These cost around £145 - £165 for adults and a bit of a discount for kids.

Personally I think this horrendous - particularly if you are not going round disney all day, every day (£600 for a family of four).

The other option that I have found - and it can be done in advance, and having checked all the small print, we are allowed to buy as UK citizens (ie they are not restricted to USA citizens) - are the Magic Your Way basic tickets. These DO NOT include entry to water parks or a couple of other disney sites (including the sports venue) but do include 1 entry per day to each of the main parks (with my family we will be just doing one park a day - with a family ranging from 5 year old to a 75 year old, one disney experience a day will be just fine).

A magic your way ticket for 7 days costs $222 bought in advance and $234 on the gate. (this is according to www.touringplans.com which is a really great resource - even the free stuff but definately worth the extra few pounds for a years sub to the touring plans - cheaper than a guide book).

It is not a massive saving - but over £150 for four people so not to be sniffed at. Depends on how you are planning your days.

I booked with VH this year and booked their platinum insurance package. I later discovered it was a complete rip off (approx £300 for 10 days insurance). I cancelled the insurance with VH and booked my car hire separately through Airline Network. We got a bigger car (with Dollar), with fully inclusive insurances for LESS than the insurance alone with VH. I didn't tell VH we weren't using the car otherwise they would have charged us. Before you opt for the platinum package with VH, check out Airline Network's prices.

BTW, we booked a fly drive only (so in effect were only using the flights) and we attached our VH baggage labels. We had real trouble with the VH holiday rep insisting we go to the VH car hire desk rather than the Dollar desk. It took ages to convince her that we had booked our own car instead. Next time I will not use their luggage labels.
