    k-hkr,

    We went to Orlando 28/04/08 to 12/05/08.
    4 adults (2 adults plus 2 teenagers);

    Flights (direct with Virgin from Gatwick): £1370
    4 bedroom villa with pool: £700
    2 weeks car hire (Dodge Durango): £266

    Total: £2,336 (I think)

    The first thing that we booked was flights (from Dialiaflight) and we did this the first school day of 2008 (Jan 4th or thereabouts).

    I can't tell you what the prices will be if you wait, but unless someone persuades me to do it differently, I know that we would do exactly the same next time.

    Best of luck - I know you'll have a blast.

    Lightning, have you tried Broadway Travel? By far the cheapest for me.

    Going for 2 weeks next Thursday and staying in Travelodge on I-Drive. Cost me £432 per person. No car hire needed as the hotel has free shuttles etc.

    YOU'RE A STAR!
    cheer for the heads up, been looking for the last two months for flights in october... missed the boat on some 269quid flights on dialaflight and since then theyve all been over 400quid each wherever i've looked.

    just booked via broadway. gatwick to sanford for 289pp

    now i just need to sort out a hire car and themepark stuff. WOO!!! :)

    Cheers. They do sound like good prices. Can you tell me whre you booked the villa and car hire? Also did you have any choice of dates (we need to depart between 22/4 and 25/4) or were they special offers for those specific dates?

    We knew nothing about organising a 'DIY' holiday - in fact this trip was our first family holiday abroad.

    We were getting bogged down with the endless options available to us (regarding flights) as we were very flexible and so we settled on a three week window. Then we went through the three weeks, checking on a day by day basis (which took around an hour or two). We found that it was cheaper to fly on a Mon/Tues/Wed from Gatwick than at any other time, so that narrowed our choice down for us. Then it was just a case of choosing which week we went.

    Regarding the car hire we used;

    Their website can be quirky though. If you go for what you perceive to be a wider choice of agents by selecting "search all suppliers" then you may miss out on a good deal because for some reason it misses out Alamo's best price for the full size 4x4, and shows dollar as the cheapest, which isn't true, so I'd recommend doing a search for each supplier individually, and taking the best price that way.

    Villa - we got ours from Dalton holidays and the villa we stayed in is one of two they own and is listed for sale, although I've been told its not likely to be sold in the next year or so. I won't post the link because I don't want to spam the thread, but I'll PM the details to you.

    Anybody know anything about catching late deals to Florida?

    Plus would anybody advise booking flights and hotel seperatley (without means of travel) as I have found a hotel in Kissimmee for £110pp for 14 nights which is a steal but how could I get to and from Sanford airport? Is there a shuttle?

    Hi all

    I have just booked a package holiday to Florida for May 2009. We are staying in a villa and car hire is included, however I am unsure about the car insurance. Included in the price of car hire is third party insurance but I am wondering whether to upgrade to either gold or premium? The prices though for upgrading are huge, upto 22 pounds a day, and as I am going for 14 days it is a lot of money. I read somewhere that it may be cheaper to book another car to hire and not to pick up the included car, could this be correct?? It seems a bit silly to me.

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    If you don't mind me asking, who did you book your holiday with, and how much did you pay? My 2 kids are gutted because if we can't find cheaper flights, then we may not be going. I have looked again at flights for us, and they are now quoting £4400, which with £1000 for a villa, is too much! (We're looking at Easter 2009, school holidays I know are more, but this is crazy!)

    :cry:

    Any other advice would be great!!
