If you don't mind me asking, who did you book your holiday with, and how much did you pay? My 2 kids are gutted because if we can't find cheaper flights, then we may not be going. I have looked again at flights for us, and they are now quoting £4400, which with £1000 for a villa, is too much! (We're looking at Easter 2009, school holidays I know are more, but this is crazy!)

Any other advice would be great!!

I've just booked for next Easter. 2 adults and 2 children £1807. This is indirect via Newark (New York) from my local airport with www.continental.com

Virgin Atlantic wanted over £3k so I decided the indirect flight was the way ahead for us :D
  • Hi, I am heading to Florida this year, all being well, my husband, myself, 3 children and an infant. I booked this last year and paid £2300.00 for us all, I have friends who have booked the same holiday 14 nights hotel plus car hire for 2 adults and 2 children for £1800.00 . We went into our local co-op travel agent and asked them to call us as soon as the next year brouchures came out to get the best price. (we booked with Globespan)
How to budget, generally in previous years to feed 2 adults and 3 kids all day took roughly 60 dollars, and anything big we bought on visa, when we tended to get great exchange rates. Also take some 'just in case' money for ice creams, treats, petrol and car parking in the parks (roughly $11 per day)
For park tickets the best thing is to keep checking the internet sites, quote one company off against another, to get the best deals. Hope this is of some help.

We are going next Easter 4th - 18th April. The flights were soooo expensive. I managed to get the price down by using dial a flight. We got exactly the same flights that we were looking at on British Airways for £200 less for each. Saying that they were still £940 for each flight. That included car hire as well for the 2 weeks. I really shopped around for the villa and got a pretty good deal. You should look at Emerald Island Resort if you're wanting to be close to Disney. It's about 5 mins drive away and is a really nice resort. We stayed there a couple of years ago and were so pleased with it. It's a gated community. If you want a place with a pool then you need to look at the 4 bedroom villas - not townhouses. If you want any more info then just PM me. I'll give you ay advice - not sure it'll be much help but i have done a lot of shopping around and searching. xxx

I'm about to buy my Universal tickets online direct from the park as I want the 2 park unlimited pass for 7 days and I have a question I hope someone can answer for me.

If I use my Amex card I get a free booklet of vouchers worth $150 and a free gift when I reach the park. Unfortunately it really doesn't give any detaials about what's included for me to make an informed decision. I'm also not certain how much Amex will charge me as it will be a $$ purchase. Alternatively I can use my Nationwide credit card and not be charged any fee.

Has anyone received one of these booklets of vouchers and can tell me what's included ???

    Hello,

I will be booking my 14 night Virgin holiday to Florida this week for September 2008 however I was wondering if somebody could answer a few questions I have about their 'free' car hire.

As I am 24 years old I understand I will have to pay the $25 /day surcharge totaling $350 for the stay. This seems much better than the £20+ /day platinum insurance Virgin offer.

    My questions are:
Is this the only charge I'm required to pay?
Would I be better of leaving this option and booking car hire elsewhere? (So far can't find cheaper for 24yo.

Do I have any other options?

Youll need both the $25/day and the £20/day. Youll be taking a big risk if you dont take the Platinum topup IMHO.....I think the standard insurance is like 3rd party only, and youre driving on the wrong side of the road, with a vague knowledge of the road rules (turn right on red etc), and you dont really know where youre going.

Look elsewhere.....eg fifteen02 or whatever its called always gets praised for its rates. Youll need to understand all the lingo eg CDW, LDW, UMP etc. so you know what youre getting versus what you want.

The best deal I found for my upcoming holiday in the US was Travel Insurance Web via Topcashback. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/RetailerResults.aspx?keyword=Travel%20Insurance%20Web

Topcashback have already paid me my discount as well :T

    Thanks for the advice.

To be honest I am only looking for the basic/minimum requirement - otherwise the costs would begin to really mount up. I hired a car last year in Florida and found the driving/traffic conditions no problems.

    Still open for anyones advice.
