Royal Mail £8 Internal Post Handling Fee scam?

If you don't want to pay RM the £8 you could always arrange your own customs clearance. It will only cost you around £50 per consignment plus £15 handling fee for paying the import duties. The choice is yours.
One train of thought was that RM are acting illegally by holding the mail against a debt owed to them. If proven, which it has not been, it would mean that they would have to deliver the mail and bill you. This is what many courier companies do. You would still have to pay the fee which would probably be higher to cover their increased costs and bring them into line with others. The couriers use very aggressive debt collection methods to pursue those who do not pay.0 -
I will be taking it up with the trading standards, i hear threats of legal action works wonders as well.
Kind of like unfair bank charges, ring any bells?.
For anybody else in this situation, its worth saying you wish to pay only the vat/duty, from what i have read they then have no legal grounds to hold your property.
I do hope your pockets are very deep then.
Oh, and just in case you missed it the banks no longer have to refund anyone as they have won in all the necessary courts so far.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. these threads all go the same way
evil RM(or courier company) yet nobody sees that it is HMRC they need ot approach
its HMRC who charges them and HMRC who could set up a payment set up
of course if that was the case they would be looking at raising costs and probably far more eager to charge items
those that order from abroad and get items from RM will tell you its a small % of their items that get charged via RM
so if it was such a money spinner wouldnt RM be pulling everything out to charge?
it doesnt bother me either way what you do or if you pay get your charge back
however nothing is free in this life,if RM have to administrate something then they will charge
hell IIRC virgin charge £5 to get a paper bill sent out over online billing0 -

But it isn't your property until you have paid the appropriate tax and vat on it.0 -

Actually people have demanded to pay only the vat/duty and have recieved there goods.
It's a offence to further delay the post. Even with so called royal mail handling charges outstanding.
As for other peoples comments clearly they are royal mail fan boy apoligists0 -

damnjet will do nothing,as is so often the case
all bluster on the forums
he/she(though i would guess he) could be proactive and question HMRC on this, but they wont
you cant have it both ways with RM doing all the leg work yet you feel they should do this free with no disruption to yourself
its interesting that RM make millions from this(no figures to support of course) but in real terms how many threads are on the forum on this?0 -
I won't apologise for being a postie. RM fanboy I am not :rotfl:
I too have been caught out with this charge, unfortunately it was a lot more than the £12. The x stupidly bought a dvd player for his car from Timbuktu, and the charge was around £60-80 iirc.
If you don't want to pay the charges, buy in UK instead.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
I will remind my postman to collect my personal christmas tip from royal mail bosses this year as they are holding it for him..0
