PAYG is an antonym of contract.
good point
PAC [STRIKE]code [/STRIKE]= Porting Authorisation Code [STRIKE]code[/STRIKE] - you use it to port your number to another network should you decide to change networks.
Now HTC make only smartphones. Don't know about ages ago, but smartphones have changed dramatically after iPhone was launched in 2008(?).
thanks
You have to chose between a contract with a phone and a sim-only contract with a sim-free phone. The former will tie you in for 18-24 months. The latter will be more flexible, but will require a bigger upfront payment and will possibly cost a little more in total.
ok ta
What are your airtime requirements in terms of minutes+texts?
not high
What's the budget in terms of either a total cost over 18-24 months or upfront payment + monthly cost?
not a set one as such but prefer the cheaper end
Very decent smartphones cost about £80-£150.
Good sim-only contracts are available for £7-£12 p.m.
For an examples of contracts with basic smartphones see 24x£7.50 contracts at http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-monthly/deal-finder?&filterAvail=MONTHLY&filterFeatures=SMARTPHONE_SYMBIAN
cheers, I've gone partway through ordering the sony xperia tipo, 7.50 per month (zero upfront and £35 quidco cashback, which is as cheap as any sim only deal?), but at no point has it asked me if i want to keep my old number, also will i need the pac before placing this order?
Sorry for all the questions, I've passed the age now where I can make sense of technology!Aha, so thats how you do a signature!0 -
Only Talkmobile network require PAC at the time of buying. With other networks you can port your number later, after starting the new contract.
If you have not completed your order yet and want to save some money, consider a similar redemption deal with extra £84 cashback (and quidco as well):

If you claim the cashback successfully the effective cost will be just about 24x£3.50.0 -

I was all ready to get this deal and said I wanted to think overnight about it. Then I was told (albeit by the TMobile salesman) that Talk Mobile signal through Vodaphone is poor. How has your wife found it or anyone else who may have this deal.0 -
Talkmobile signal is Vodafone signal. It is as poor/good as Vodafone signal is.
I wouldn't believe a word that any salesperson says.0 -

I know you are right but why is it I half believed him? Because the salespeople are supposed to be experts and I know very little. Thank God for this site. Wait til I get my tongue round that little s;)**@!!xx tomorrow.0 -

I appreciate this question has been asked on numerous occasions but here is my twist on it.
I have a friend who is recovering from a major illness, their finances are virtually non-existent, they don’t want to sign up for a contract, and they would have no more than a dozen numbers that they contact. They don’t send texts and don’t use the internet.
At the moment they are on a PAYG tariff with o2, I’m not to sure what the plan is. I’m wondering what is the best, most economical, package available to this person given all the above information.
I’m probably the person they contact most often and I have two phones on a Vodafone contract. If I could add them to my account on a PAYG basis I would but I wouldn't want to take responsibility for paying their bill, it would have to be PAYG.
There are that many options and plans it is almost impossible to decide which is the best to go for. Any suggestions? Minute wise lets say 300
