  • Mobile phone recycling is a better option and the problem can be solved with utmost ease. Anyone can sell their mobile phone and it can be re-used and not wasted. Everything which has negative effect on the environment is a waste.
  • If anyone is looking for a decent smartphone for as little as possible, I just ordered the new Motorola DEFY with T-Mobile (after deciding I didn't want to be tied in at £35 per month for the iphone4)!

    The deal is approximately £9 per month (after cashback) as follows;
free phone + 300 mins + 300 texts + "flexible booster" (I chose internet which I think is 1gb but don't quote me!).
For the flexible booster you can also choose from internet, unlimited texts, unlimited t-mobile calls, unlimited landline calls, and a few other options I can't remember!

You actually pay £15 per month, but can claim £120 cashback from phones4u (at 3 stages over the 24 month contract - 60 day redemption period), then a further £35 cashback if you purchase via topcashback! The whole deal over 24 months costs £212, although the RRP for the phone alone is around £300!

This package direct from T-mobile comes minus the £120 cashback, plus you have to pay £75 for the phone so if you fancy it then make sure you go through Topcashback and Phones4u instead!

Hope this helps someone! I am absolutely thrilled with mine! xx
  • Hi :),
I damaged my O2 PAYG mobile, what is the best way of buying a new one ? (called customer service, they are absolutely useless !, might actually take my business elsewhere)
I like the Sony Elm phone, or any phone with a good camera
    Thanks for any advice :)
  • HI has anyone used the Giffgaff network? They are giving away free PAYG sims and the tarrifs seem good value, free texts etc, was wondering if anyone know if they were ok? on their website it says they use the same network as o2
  • i think you would be able to , i put a tesco sim card into my O2 phone and it worked.

My husband's mobile died suddenly, so someone gave him an old vodafone one. he put his asda sim in it and it worked just fine. as asda use vodafone for their coverage, i'm asuming it would be fine in your case too.

yes you should be able to, tesco sim cards work in o2 phones

OneCompare.com is the #1 recommendation in Martin's guide - but the site appears to have been abandoned since ~2008!

All listed e-mail addresses (e.g., info@) are bouncing. The phones section is missing key recent handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S. The forums haven't been updated since 2008 and throw an error when trying to register.

I suggest one of the MSE team gets in contact with them to ask them to sort the site out - otherwise surely MobilePhoneChecker or MoneySupermarket are better #1 recommendations?

    Cheers, Ben
  • I am after a cheap mobile/webservice where I can simply receive and send the odd text message for a sports results receiving service.
If a phone as cheap as possible - maybe sim only as I have an old Sony O2 contract phone that might be suitable.

A web service would be better where more than one person could log in to see the texts?

Please take care using the mobilephonechecker comparison site mentioned by Martin in the article. For instance, I put in 3000 mins and 3000 texts sim only into the drop down box and up popped Asda mobile 'unlimited' at the top at £25. Only problem being, anyone signing up to Asda and actually using that amount of calls and texts in a month would find that they would have been charged for 1000 minutes and 1000 texts (I think it would amount to £120!!). Asda clearly state in their T&Cs that their FUP is 2000 minutes and 2000 texts.

9.8 The Asda Mobile pay as you go bundles i.e. Unlimited, Everyday, Simply Talk, Simply Text, Textaholic and Talkaholic are based on 30 days usage. Customers going over their allowance will be charged the standard Asda Mobile charges for calls and texts. The Asda Mobile Unlimited bundle is subject to a fair usage policy of 2000 minutes and 2000 texts per 30 days.

Good point. As with all comparison sites, you should carefully check the T&Cs of what you are thinking of buying, before buying it.

Another example is "unlimited" data on all T-mobile contracts, their FUP is 1GB, so paying for more than 1GB would be pointless.
