try tesco pay monthly. found £6 a month sim only with 100 mins and unlimited texts. Tesco are o2 coverage too. My kids were payg with o2 but I have switched them to this and kept their numbers too.

this offer is only available on line and if you go via topcashback you get £6 cash back on it.

  • Hi All,

I am a long time reader and lurker on the moneysavingexpert boards and would just like to thank all for their advice!

have just haggled orange down to £10 month, 600 minutes, unlimited texts and a new phone on a sim only contract!!!

initial call centre could only offer me £15 a month for 200 mins and texts, but when i asked politely to be put through to customer retentions they couldn't do enough! the first operator tried to sell me a contract phone too, but i held firm and have cut my phone bill in half!

i mentioned the tesco deal discussed above and that seemed to be the catalyst so would recommend it to anyone on orange. they did offer mobile internet credit too, but i didn't need that (i have an old luddites phone) so got credit towards a new handset instead!

thanks to all - it's so easy once you know what your'e doing thanks to the forums here!

It you've already got a phone then try ASDA Mobile which uses the Vodafone Network and charges 8pp min and 4pp text which I think is still the cheapest around. Their cheapest handsets start at around £25.
  • Came onto this thread as I need a cheap phone after losing mine this morning but it seems to be just chat about good contracts recently - can anyone help? :(

How much do you want to spend? Do you require it SIM-Free i.e. open to any network or are you on a network already, if so which one?

Sorry, I was just thinking I should've added that :o

I'm with Vodafone, paying £10/month for 300mins and "unlimited" texts which I've just signed up for 12 months.
They can give me a phone if I upgrade to a more expensive tariff but I think it would cost me less to buy a phone separately and stick to existing tariff.

If you just want a cheap and cheerful phone then there's the Nokia 1661 on Amazon for £14.99. It scores 8.2 on reevoo.com. If not that one then let us know a budget and whether there's any particular features you'd like on the phone.
