Now a days mobiles are become so cheap that any one can afford to buy it and all the companies are trying to compete each other in some or the other way. before mobiles were like hidden treasure but now they are like daily hand devices.0
-
It may prove awkward as he may have to name the company that can only be named in one thread on MSE (bizarrely in the Gas & Electric forum) as the cheapest deal for non-data SIM only users.0

OneCompare.com is the #1 recommendation in Martin's guide - but the site appears to have been abandoned since ~2008!
All listed e-mail addresses (e.g., info@) are bouncing. The phones section is missing key recent handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S. The forums haven't been updated since 2008 and throw an error when trying to register.
I suggest one of the MSE team gets in contact with them to ask them to sort the site out - otherwise surely MobilePhoneChecker or MoneySupermarket are better #1 recommendations?
Cheers, Ben
I aggree with Ben - this site doesn't seem to be much use - one of the news items is titled I phone 3...
The CHEAP MOBILES article was last updated in May 2009 - time for an update Martin?[/COLOR]0 -

hi as above, blackberry on contract broken and need a really cheap phone to put my virgin sim into. Problem is every site wants me to buy airtime which is no use as i have to use the contract one in phone.0

I have had the unlimited tariff from O2 for £55 ex vat on a business contract. No problems with 'fair use' so far and I hammer the phone!
My friend took great delight in telling me he has just got the same deal from a company called GreenTrustUK who have the same tariff for £40 with an iPhone 4 and you can change your phone in twelve months - IF - you are happy to extend your contract by another year. Or you can have it 'SIM-free' for £25
He also said they have the cheapest iPhones he's seen. Not tried them myself.0 -
hi im on orange pay as you go and my sony ericssonk510i is dying. i want to upgrade to a phone that is better at using the internet - i use facebook and twitter and they are hard to use on this phone. i dont really want to pay more than £50 and not keen on a contract - though ive never had one so dont really know why!
any suggestions? i can get £15 off at the orange phone shop but dont know which phone to go for...0 -
My old mobile died and while I have a backup it's a pretty basic Nokia so I'm trying to work out what is the best upgrade path.
Currently I send maybe 50 or so texts a month but make very few calls. However, I've struck lucky in that a good few years back I bought an Orange 5-texts-a-day-for-a-year upgrade which I gather due to some error on their part they can't remove. Therefore, I only top up maybe £15-20 per year at best. I'm on a very old Orange tariff though so calls and excess texts are fairly expensive.
I am interested in upgrading to a smart phone. It would be useful to me to have mobile internet but it is unlikely to be something I would use a lot. It is hard to tell when I don't have it but I suspect at first I'd use it for the novelty value but then only for checking emails etc when I'm away from home.
What I can't decide is whether to go contract or stay PAYG as well as working out what looks like a good, basic phone for what I want. I'd like a reasonable (3M or so) camera but other than that I don't need bells and whistles. Basic mobile internet would be more than good enough.
If it makes any difference I'm a Virgin Media customer so can access their special offers.
I would probably avoid the more complex cash-back deals as I'm quite likely to forget to claim.
Any suggestions most appreciated!0 -

You're gonna need mobile internet so whatever your new tariff its going to be a fair bit more expensive than the £20 per year you've been used too. You could pick up a cheap smartphone i.e. like the htc wildfire or orange san fransisco then get a sim only deal? Or you could go for a contract deal. Really depends on what you're after.
My friend has the htc wildfire and though its not as good as the likes of the iphone and higher end smartfones it seems good value for what it is around £150.
With internet, texts and a new smartphone on contract with no cashback youre going to be spending at least £10-15 per month. 3 is probably the cheapest network on the whole but personally Ive never used them. http://www.comparemobiledeals.com/mobile-phones/Deals/AnyPhone?Make=&tab=Pay-Monthly&page=1&sortby=Monthly-Cost&texts=50&minutes=50&Free-Gift=X&Cashback=None&internet=yes
Info on the HTC wildfire, there seems to be some good deals going around at the moment. http://www.htc.com/uk/product/wildfire/overview.html
Good reviews too. http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/28/htc-wildfire-review/
Orange san francisco couple with a payg/contract sim could be a good option too but dont forget to check the internet allowance as charges can be heavy if you go over it.0
