  • Good morning everyone:wave:

I'm sorry for the long leave of absense. I have been trying to get my head in to the right place but i have been keeping an eye on what has been happening:D

We are all fine here and coping as well as can be. My husband is being very optimistic and we ARE going to get through this and it'll all be back to normal by Christmas:xmassmile

I did open my tin early so I could start getting presents now so I don't stress too much later on. Considering I didn't start until half way through the year, I'm very pleased with the amount. It was....£424.00:T

I'm very pleased and I want to say Thankyou to everyone here for pushing me forward to save more. The new tin is up and already started and I can't wait to continue with everyone for the next SPC:j

Congratulations Melodylady! An excellent potting amount, enjoy your Christmas shopping (after all, as it was tin money its basically free as you would have spent it if you hadn't potted it! :D )

A very lovely £27 in the pot yesterday, which included a very nice £2 coin :D

I'm fighting the urge right now! I really REALLY want to open the tins but I know if i'm early how disappointed i'll be on count up day not to have tins to open :rotfl: currently i'm picking them up periodically and giving them a shake to ward off the potty cravings :o

Great £27 potted for you jakes-mum. not long now and you can open your pots. I was thinking to myself this morning that I might open my pig now, but I resisted for exactly the same reason as you.

I’m resisting the urge to open early as my birthday is two days before opening day! I’m going to wait until the 31st though as it’s a Thursday and Friday is my day off. That means I can count up on Thursday evening when my son is in bed in a relaxed and restful state. I have booked my birthday off work though.......I will resist, I will resist. :rotfl:

A huge hello to all Sealed Potters!!! :j:D:j

It's so wonderful to be back with you again, even if briefly.

So very many thanks first and foremost to 32b13 for all that you've put into the thread for me whilst I've been in pain and undergoing tests. You've been fantastic for the thread and certainly for me and I'm so very grateful to you.

I had an appointment to see the Orthopeadic Dr on the 11th November, but asked if I could go on the cancellation list; a good job I did too as they rang to say someone had cancelled and could I go on 23rd October, hubby's birthday! I'm in much less pain these days, thank goodness, though I'm aware that it's due to having to be far less active, a shame but that's the way things are until I see the Orthapod.
So, that brings you all up to date.

Very many thanks for the wonderful greetings from you, I truly appreciate them all.

We've clearly had some really sad news while I've been poorly, especially with dear Frogletina. I can't begin to understand just what she's going through but I've PM'd her, Melody also over the sad news about her dear husband with his fight against cancer. I sincerely hope we see them both again just as soon as they feel strong enough.

Well, the declaration date will soon be upon us before we know it, so please folks, if you're able to, save like fury until the 30th and let's see how well you've all done during this 13th year!
Please, don't worry if you haven't been able to save a lot as that doesn't matter, it's the fact that you've saved what you've can as and when you've been able to. So please, be very proud of however much you save!

Hello there Emily!! :hello:After all the struggles you've had through the years you've been with us, I really do understand that I've been there for you when possible, proud of you too for the way you've coped!! All very best wishes to you in your move, I hope it won't be long until you make it a lovely home!

Hello little_sweetie!!! :hello:It's wonderful to see you and thank you so much for your very kind words. I'm so sorry to hear about G, to be honest that sounds just like the pain that I've been having. I've had pain and stiffness for a few years but after falling downstairs during a seizure it's been he!l! What about his Dr A?? Do get him to go if he hasn't already done so. I'll be in touch my friend.

Hello Rasp!!! :hello: Once more the promise, once again you break it. Don't worry Rasp, only only joking with you, it's lovely to see you again. Thank you so much for your kindness. 32b3 is brilliant though, so we're ALL in the very best of hands!

#54 I was surprised to have counted up my coins and a few notes and found that the total was £497.53. I couldn't believe it. I thought it would be much less. I decided to round it up from bank account to £500 and pay the remainder of my credit card off so I am literally £110 away from being debt free. Christmas shopping almost complete, waiting on a few bits to arrive but I've done it on the smallest of budgets this year.

Thank you for running this thread. It has been amazing. I can't wait to start again on the 1st November ready for next year.

Congratulations to you LLM2018!!! You've done amazingly, excellent saving and see you on SPC 13 soon! :j:T:j

I’ve just banked what was in my pot (£65) as I realised that if I didn’t I’d go into my overdraft by £50 before I get paid in 2 weeks :o I could have moved money over from my savings account but am trying not to touch it until I really need to.

Can I declare my total for the year now? In total it was £436 :j

Very many congratulations Loz, that's a fantastic sum saved!!!!:T:dance:

    Hi all

Seems like ages since I last posted (it was the end of July) and I'm so sorry to read the various posts about illness and family losses people have been experiencing. My thoughts are with you all! x

I haven't had the best year of potting this year and am not particularly hopeful of the results when I open my tin. I began the year wanting to not be silly with money, reduce spending on my card(s) and try and get out of my overdraft. Then I had my tiny car accident which cost me so much in other ways and is still not resolved in so much as I am now going to court over the unpaid excess/number plate retention claim I made after my car was written off. And of course I'm still paying my mum back for the money she lent me to buy my new car. I also feel bad that I haven't taken her away for a few nights this year at all, all because I was trying to be good again with money.

My lump sum savings matured in August so that took care of my overdraft but also gave me a bit of a buffer on my day to day bank account so whilst it helped, it also didn't because I didn't get to save anything from it. I may have mentioned previously how I tried to help my friend with her finances and bailed her out - well of course what she paid me back, didn't go back into my savings and consequently was used to try and keep my overdraft usage down. As of now, I have no savings anywhere other than what's in my tin and my Quidco money. That part is totally my own fault.

But it is what it is. I struggled to afford to go on holiday, our bottle savings paid for that, and I ended up opening my tin early just to give me a bit more money to play with leaving an IOU inside so I knew how much I had in total. Since then I've decided that as there won't be much more in it now, I'm going to use my tin through to next year's holiday before I touch it again. I'm also going to set up a standing order this month on payday, to transfer £10 a week into my savings along with the £1-a-day challenge money on the premise that I won't miss it but if I was doing it with physical money - even into the tin - it would never happen. I'm annoyed and disappointed in myself after doing so well saving since I discovered these challenges. Hey ho.

In other news, I have also been in a lot of pain in my right wrist which has got worse this year, to the point that I will be having a minor keyhole op on 8th November to see what's going on. So far X-rays and an MRI scan have revealed everything to be OK. On the plus side I've been contracted out of the NHS to a local private hospital which is lovely. If this op reveals nothing either then it looks like I will just have to live with it and retrain myself to do some things left-handed, especially using a mouse which at home in particular is extremely painful, results in pins and needles and my hand locking in position. At work I have a very expensive rollermouse but I can't afford one for home!

On another note I would love the SPC to continue but completely understand it might not be possible. Hopefully if it does I can be a bit better at it next year!!

  • Just finally sitting down to catch up with the thread after what seems like months away. I'm really sorry SUE isn't well, we owe it to her to keep potting right up until the counting up deadline.

Great to see so much cash getting potted. I think my life is nearly back to normal and I'm hoping to return back to work next month after a very long 14months on SSP. This challenge has been an amazing lifeline and helped me focus on something other than my injuries.

With lack of cash and spending on mostly cards for first 7months of the year, there's not been much coinage potting going on. I did open a 'sealed pot' account for all the extra income i've made this year and my original aim was to make £500 to cover Christmas presents. I've been adding any cash i've made after selling onFB or ebay, quidco cash back, surveys with 1poll & PA and receipt loggers. I never thought it would be possible but I smashed my original target, reset another with Sue of £1000 and have recently smashed that due to an ebay frenzy!

My total stands total at £1208.11 in the sealed bank, although i have spent some on bargain christmas presents. I do have a small copper jar that I'll add to my grand total on count up day. I'm hoping there may be some more ebay sales and receipt cash before, so won't stop trying until the last minute!
