NSD 17/15 AFD No 23
Here's another one who was feeling disorganised so I've looked out all the Christmas presents, made sure they're all wrapped up and made a note of any I still have to buy. Not many and I've decided what to get. I'll see to them next week. Written all my cards. Have to buy stamps and find somewhere I can post the foreign ones as we no longer have a post office. Just need to decide now what the two of us want for Christmas dinner.
Off on holiday on 1 December so I'll have to get washing, ironing and packing next week. A few household chores to see to as well but I'll leave the Christmas tree until I come back on the 15th.
Himself has really surprised me by still not drinking and today he sat down and worked out a financial plan for himself for next year. I can't believe it - he's never done that before. Just goes to show it's never too late to learn good habits.
Have a good weekend.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Hi, just a quick visit tonight as really laid low with this cold. Have done nothing today except sit and watch tv and browse the internet. I have a big day out tomorrow so hoping my lazy day today will make me feel better for that. NSD today so that's me on 16/20 xx

NSD today - 15/20. Did not need anything in the Black Friday sales and was not one bit tempted.
Walked for the usual lap around the park.
Done everything on my list.
Used what I already had in. Finally used up 2 food items that I had for a while.
Phoned chemist regarding my prescription. They have received it and said I will pick it up tomorrow. Had a nice chat with the lady who owns the business. Did thank her and the team for their support over the past year.
Self care.
Sorted out what I have to do at the weekend.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20130 -

Thrifty regarding the "are you a terrorist question" , when I post parcels the man in the post office always asks me if my parcel contains explosives drugs etc & it always makes me laugh for the same reason!0

NSDs: 10/15. Must buy final Xmas present online this evening as I plan for tomorrow to be NSD #11.
Extra income: Had an unexpected sale this afternoon, bringing this month’s total to £213.21. Selling stuff and simultaneously decluttering is becoming a little addictive!
Eat those frogs:
Prep my annual expenditure plan. Urgh, this will not be my favourite thing to do, I know it won’t be as bad as it seems and it will feel good to have completed it. But, urgh!

Today I am grateful for the driver who stopped to let me cross the road, for finding a present for my sister, for the lady in Nwide, for finally finishing off the 7 pesky He11o kitties, for doing a mini workout, for the misty weather, for dd's excitement at tomorrow's craft fair, for making a successful gf df lemon drizzle cake, for a lovely hot bath, for time with dd, for a lovely random chat with a lady in aldee about mum + dementia. Well I was all on schedule for NSD 11 today, until DS4, on the way home from football, in the back of the car stated he only had his school shoes now as his trainers were broken. If you count him pulling both soles off right up to his heel as being 'broken' then he had definitely broken them.
Had to get a pair on the way home - £15 later - so no NSD 11for me. Boo!
Stuck on NSD 104/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

foxholes I recommend the Pogues 'Fairytale of new York' with the volume turned up. Sing along with emphasis and if things are really bad take a rolling pin to a cushion or worktop.
On unpreparedness
* When I was small my mother (who was pregnant with my brother) finished putting wallpaper on the walls on Christmas Eve after I had gone to bed, then put the tree up then got presents out.
* When I was 10yo we moved house on December 22nd (not recommended). I had taken db1 to my mother's cousin's house. Mum , dad and baby bro came with the removal van. Previous owner had removed all the lightbulbs but left the carpets and they unpacked in the dark and just got our beds up. Gas man could disconnect the cooker at the old house but not guarantee that the new house could be connected - he gave mum his phone number and said to call him if we had no cooker on Christmas Eve.
The joy of trying to boil milk for cereal over an open coal fire. Then 'uncle' came round with the turkey. Saw me doing the milk (it takes time) and returned a bit later on with his camping stove (just one single burner). We had a working cooker by Christmas and then in the New Year we started going through the floorboards (rot).
* The year of DS3's and my accident (28 years ago), I was not referred to victim support, the first doctor I saw told me no-one could help me and to pull myself together (I had PTSD), OH lost his contract at the beginning of November, started a new one in December, due to various mistakes money for the contract did not come through until mid-Feb and we were paying for his lodgings, travel etc from our personal account.
I did not sleep for 6 months after the accident, I had a pregnancy scare (morning sickness whilst still breastfeeding a baby was a step too far for me), I had found out about OH's gambling when a year before when I was 3 months pregnant so I had to do all the shopping as OH's cards had all to be cut up and I was worried about being behind with my college work.
On December 1st I bought an outfit for DS3 (he'd been wearing hand me downs up till then) and four turtles puppets which cost £9.99 each and we had them for years.
OH did not come home for Christmas, he was expected home for New Year. On New Years Eve with our od fast approaching it's limit, I was making a 'feast' using my last £5 - one of the market stalls sold bags of squishy veg for 50p and I made pizza, soup and a few bits with a bag of tomatoes. The baby cried non-stop all day. OH arrived home at 3am and left immediately after lunch.
* One Christmas (after my divorce but still invited ex to 'stay') one of my father's friends tried to pressure me into inviting dad for dinner. My father is difficult at the best of times and did not get along with my ex. I could only cope with one of them and ex was already coming because of the children.
Half way through cooking Christmas dinner dad's friend arrived. He had taken a christmas meal round for dad and was told by a neighbour that he had gone to the infirmary. Turned everything off, went to the infirmary with dad's friend, dad was just coming out (not a heart attack just too much to drink the night before), drove back, re-started dinner, adjusting timings.
Just as I was putting it out on the table ex announcd that he had run out of cigarettes and must go to his ex local to have the traditional pint.
Just keep breathing.
I have more if anyone needs cheering up. Despite sickness, overflowing baths, hoop jumping, severe money problems I genuinely believe I managed to make good Christmases for my children.
You will too.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0
