    Morning everyone

Still on NSD 12/20 as did some xmas spending (all budgeted for) but like you f0xh0les I feel pretty unprepared! I did have a nice chat with a student yesterday who suggested looking at pinterest for inspiration for some crafty things as presents, so I might do that. Although I always think about making things and never actually do it!! I won't have the time this year, plus I only have a small carry on suitcase to take back with me.

Today I'm grateful for my cold not being any worse, and for BF coming up with some neat but obvious solutions to a couple of work-related dilemmas I was having (I think our brains must work in a totally different way - to him it was blindingly obvious but I must have little common sense in some areas!!)

After work today I am just going to chill for the rest of the weekend and try to get rid of this cold.

    Have a wonderful day turtles

  • NSD - no change as I was spending yesterday.

ENJOY - Yesterday I enjoyed chat with sis-in-law, shopping in Glasgow, dinner and chat with ex colleague. Hence the reason I didn't post last night - too tired when friend left at 9.

ORGANISE - Must write lists for Christmas as I'm away on holiday two weeks tomorrow so want to get all Christmas preps done before then.

OUTSIDE/EXERCISE - Walking around Glasgow with heavy shopping bag must count for something.

Will post properly tonight - having a chill out day today as my cold is getting worse instead of better xx

Thrifty- I've no doubt you'll be fine but I hope it all goes smoothly for you. my brother has lived in Italy/Spain/Germany for many years but as he hasn't stayed in one place he's very nervous about the whole thing. :(

Today is a spend day so still on 14. I wouldn't mind but it's because I forgot butter yesterday when I did my shop. Grr. I'm also going to buy some wonder web & take up my sons spider man outfit as he wont take it off & he is forever falling over it.
I am trying to build up a stock pile of food. Ive tasked hub of clearing a shelf in the garage.& any time I have change in my budget from my grocery shop I'm going to buy extra of items on offer. See how it goes. I'd be interested to know if anyone else does this.

last night hub & I wrote a list of things he needs to do on his car as he had a couple of advisory on his last MOT. I have popped these in the budget in order of importance & put my name down for over time to match the amounts needed.
tonight we are off to look at the lights in town, the boys will love them and its free.
date night tomorrow, first time in a year :rotfl: Really looking forward to spending time with hub :o
today is my last morning of having my "friends" daughter. She arrived thus morning having had no breakfast. I have been thinking about what mothernerd said about pouring from an empty cup & I'm putting my foot down. Its gone on for years where we have their kids too much, lend them cash never to see it again, loan them our car for them to not take care of it or fill it. & I feel better for saying no.

Seems like all that mattered was that I lived here for 5 years and am not a terrorist (this is actually a question - are you a terrorist, who answers that with yes??? :rotfl:). Still need to send in my passport for verification but I can stay :j:j:j. Was actually a really simple exercise on a phone app.

Laurenh1 hope your brother will be ok. What nationality is he and where does he want to live in the end?

A spend day today as we pick Asda today.

Got a nice bag of horse related freebies from my lovely colleague (gloves, a back protector, helmet covers etc) might wait and give this to DD together with the lesson vouchers on xmas so she doesn't get suspicious before hand.

Hope everybody with the lurgy (seems to be doing the rounds big time atm) feels better soon. I'm finally in the final stages of it and nearly through with it.

  • F0xh0les - if it makes you feel any better, we only emailed the stepkids last night about what they would like. They all live across the world (canada or Oz) so we'll no doubt miss the last posting dates anyway...!

Shrewbie - why not take polvorones and turron back with you for people?

Thrifty - great news! What a relief. And glad you answered 'no' to that question...

laurenh - you've reminded me that our local lights switch on is this evening. I'll see if dd and her freind want to go.

    Day 23 (and 22 belatedly)

Lagom and the Work/ Life balance

A slower pace of life? (difficult)

Making space for 'me' time and simplifying your life so only things that matter to you remain.

    Lagom at WORK
Daydream a little, allow yourself to visualise your ideal work scenario
Working at home/ elsewhere/ bit of both?
Part time work allow time for your dream projects?
    Freelance or flexible working
Do you feel you work too much? (yes and I'm barely moving)
How can you balance work with your values and needs?

    BRAINSTORM

If working less would help, can you do a budget that makes it possible

    Simplifying your working week
    Ask yourself
    * Am I taking on too much
    * Am I making best use of my time
    * Am I happy with the way I'm spending my time

DON'T compare yourself to anyone else.
Look at areas you can make improvements whilst recognising and appreciating what you're good at

Life doesn't have to be perfect, try to find something that's right for you.

    GET ORGANISED (as ever)

Find a quiet time at weekend to go throught he week ahead (work and family)
Get your clothes ready the night before (lunches, schoolbags?)
If sharing a bathroom, would fixed time slots help
Put all appointments in the diary as soon as they are made.

    10 minute morning hacks
Open all post, discard, act on it, file.
Book all your appointments in one go - dentist, optician, doctor, hairdresser.
Select 3 of your favourite songs and tidy your workspace as they play.

This one's a biggy, turtles so I'll leave it there for the moment. Try to make time over the weekend to consider your options (even if you don't think there are any?).

Yesterday did not go as planned (understatement). Lurgy descended, I struggled to get out of bed. Finally phoned DS1 to cry off the meal (didn't think rushing round and hauling myself on and off buses would help) and crossed crematorium visit off the list (1/2 hour walk after I get off the bus).

Still sluggish but have regrouped my priorities. Sort cakes, read something lightweight and fun, go to bed. Sort out the kitchen (and my life) at the weekend.

For yesterday I am grateful for my bed, hot baths and pain spray, ripped up t-shirts (much softer than tissues), easy food, wraps and soft fillings, an entertaining read (terrorist thriller) and it being nearly weekend.

Fireworks - because I stayed home, I saw the fireworks (lights switch on) from my bedroom window - they set them up on the car park although not so much the 'music'. Horrified to realise that 'shotgun' song is no 1, it's so nothing (not even elevator music, just pure laziness - da da dahde dum dum ad nauseam). Too much radio 2 in the coach last weekend and then the little mess song on MM.

  • Hello everyone

Sashanut - I hope you're feeling better!! Sounds like you have a bit of a tramatic birthday bless you.

Motherned - love the inspiration for today! I am actually looking into doing a little bit of work from home on my days off when son is at nursery so fingers crossed that goes well :)
I like the idea of prepping for the week as well. When my son was first born I would plan out his whole week of outfits! Now he just has whatever I find in the morning haha. Maybe I should start doing this again? As would save some time in the mornings! And sending hugs

    NSD - 6/15 Don't think I will be getting my 15 this month :o

ORGANISE - My son is going for a few days with his dad this weekend so need to sort him some bits out to take and nice bath.

VALUES - Paid off another £50 into CC account so that's getting there slowly.

ENJOY - Spending the morning with my son tomorrow and going to take him for a haircut so he looks smart when he sees his dads family.

MAKE AN INVENTORY - Got a little bit of shopping yesterday, only got bits I needed come to £22 in L!dl a lot better than my usual £40-£60 weekly shop! Quite pleased with that so I made sure that I filled my car up was £50 but will last a few weeks.

BUDGETS - In OD again but have food, fuel and CC paid will just be no spends or low spends the rest of the week.

EXERCISE - None today but did go swimming yesterday, my son hated it at first but after a little while and a few laughs he was kicking his legs and really enjoying himself :D

    RULES - :D I'm getting there.

ICE - Just need to pop another blanket in the car and some water.

    NOW - Trying with SW.

NO - Having to buy lunch at work today.

    DEBT FREE - 11.12.19!!

WINTER PROOF - Heating will be on low and extra layers. Need to stop falling asleep with heating on.

COOK FROM SCRATCH - crisps for breakfast, meal deal for lunch and no idea for dinner probably jacket, beans, bacon and salad.

OUTSIDE - None today, unless you count going from the car to work? haha

    REPORT - Hello! :)

KINDNESS - Have put some bits up on FB for free, if they don't go will donate to charity shop :) someone collecting a pair of shoes tonight. Helping my friend out getting her some med bits from pharmacy at work.

    C xx

Thrifty that's great news!! He is from the UK, but he studied European languages at University and has basically lived in and travelled around Europe since. He is a translator and works for himself so he hasn't stayed in any places for more than about a year, even thought he hasn't been home for 5 & I think that will be his biggest problem. He is going to apply to stay in Gran Canaria, He is very worried about the future & I have to say I really feel for him!
