    Hi all:j

    NSDs Now 4/15

ORGANISE your time. Planned to get up early but felt under par so didn't. That had a knock on effect through the day, especially as DDs beauty appt was cancelled, as was her evening visit from friend. So she came round, wanting lunch, supper & to stay ...so instead of me having all day to prep for going away tomorrow in peace...luckily DH stepped in & took her shopping....whilst I got on with a bit, but feeling too bleurgh to do much. Heyho what's not done will be left LOL.

VALUES Differentiate between needs and wants. No purchases today.

ENJOY yourself. Tricky today but did have a nice visit from lady who is dog sitting on the days when DD is out all day, plus when she is going out & staying over at hers. Really good of her as she's given up her dog walking business & is still coming round. She doesn't need to walk them, just let them out for a dash round the garden...and a bit of fetch from wondercollie.

MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month. Will be organising both fridges & a freezer drawer for DD tomorrow before we go. She bought a ton of food even though I told her we had loads. Sigh..

BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month.

    EXERCISE
4 times a week, 20 minutes a day. Just a quick trip into garden today.

RULES Turtle rules can be difficult at first. Following the plan as best I can.

IN case of emergency Add any items you might need Hopefully have most stuff, needed hot lemons today and was glad of them.
NOW is always the right time to start. Pretty much healthy snacks with the other half a Fat Rascal for pudding..

    NO takeaways, No takeaways today.

    EVERYONE
Am DF but always could do with more savings towards experiences or holidays. Have some funds I need to pay back to business account, also for items bought in last spending spree... so need to account for those items by December 31. Pending.

EXTRA Have a ton of stuff that needs to be sold. Will deal with when back from hols. On back burner.

WINTER Front door looks good in its new weatherproof coat and should be good for 10 years according to paint tin. Still need to do a little bit of filling & another coat, but pretty pleased with the result.

YOU should cook from scratch Sort of did this as we had an unexpected guest. Sausages, ys rosti, cauli cheese & sprouts. Sounds weird but was enjoyed by all.
    OUTSIDE Not much tbh

    REPORT regularly I'm here.

KINDNESS Does doing all the washing/ironing for the family count?

    Go Turtles !!!!

    Good morning all-

Today is NSD #5. All work & no play today.
Organise time- up early to hang washing, bath kids.
Fun- picked up a leaflet for an event at our local castle on Sunday, some sort of light show. Hoping to go to that.

Budgets & Values- all still the same, I haven't spent anything. All extra must be saved or paid off the car. Can't say I wasn't tempted to try & get spice girl tickets on Saturday but having seen the prices of their last reunion tour , I think I will put my bubble jacket & pigtails away & leave it :(
Make/ you- tuna jackets last night for tea to use up some spuds I was sent home with from play group.

Have a lovely day all. Hugs to those that need them xx

    Morning all :)

Washing machine filter is not working, will order a spare and see if we can fix it, otherwise it's a new machine . Still it was free with the house when we moved in and I have cash set aside but it would clear out my pots. Fingers crossed DH can fix it.

Has a free outside activity last night - met up with friends at the allotment to watch the town fireworks display and had our own bonfire - burned all those pesky brambles and odd bits of wood, great view and we brought our own food so free :money:

2/15 NSDs so far, hoping for another today.

    Morning all,

Apllemuncher, your 7 of 9 test did make me snigger here, thanks! What do they teach them at these schools?

Yesterday was my first NSD so 1/15 for me. I went for a lovely walk at lunchtime without my purse. I had a bit of a wobble late pm at work and nearly bought crisps. Tired, bored etc. Managed to think of reporting on here and not having an NSD for such a small thing and went for a quick once round the block instead. Diet and finances both a little better.

    Still only on NSD1

Pesky family keep asking me to buy things.
    like loo roll.
    Swines.

All relatively low spend stuff, but things that you don't buy often.

Found 9 T0sc0 coupons on my account, all on useful stuff I was low on, so used them. plus a £3 off coupon.

Living room windows are covered in ash, you can barely see through them, love fireworks, but think they should only be allowed on the one day (5th), hugs to all animal owners who had stressed pets for the last week.

So, today is waiting in for a parcel (yawn)
Taking DS4 to dentist - house will be empty for 30 minutes (when parcel delivery will be attempted)
Finding wrapping paper from January stash pile - how can 40m just disappear???

Messing about with apples - only 2 1/2 boxes left to prep!

Herding kids - who are pushing the limits of idiocy this morning - all the firework excitement plus school ramping up the CHRISTMAS message. Grrrr

Apple muncher I used to love Star Trek. DS (7) somehow learnt the Vulcan greeting with his hand from his mates but the explanation was completely lost on him.

Spend fireworks night at a friends house. Ate home made lamb stovies, lit sparklers and watched.

Also got some free veg from a friend (Jerusalem artichokes, always wanted to try but no idea what to do with them, muli and kohlrabi-yum, hard to get here).

Another SFD, off to the gym later but just on the bike. Cancelled class as I skinned my little toe under a door last night and it's bl**dy sore. Almost as bad as the annoying soreness from a paper cut :rotfl:

Booked my weekend away from the monsters and (D)H :p for next August (won't need to pay hotel till there and pay race I booked on next spend day. Thought I sign up for a longer triathlon this time, one I can't just wing with 6 weeks training and then realised I signed up for the half ironman . Oh well, that will be a good challenge then.

I got here today for the first time from something cross rabbit referred to - thanks CR! And I recognise many of the names. Can't guarantee to post every day, though I'll certainly *read* every day, I love the concept, so here's my current take on stuff, using the first post of this thread to quote.

    NST NOVEMBER IN NEW YORK
Everything can change (in a New york Minute). Be prepared for the worst. However change can be an opportunity. We can change. We can be the change we want to see in the world.
I try. I'm not always very good at it, but sometimes its a win win.

Welcome to the Ninja Saving Turtles (NST) November challenge. We will plan and be prepared. We will keep our families safe. This month I also want us to take the opportunity to look forward, consider our values and what is important to us. New York represents these aspirations.

    No turtle gets left behind.
    Love it.

    THE RULES

NSDs No spend days. You will aim for 15 (easy) or 20 (hard).

I do a monthly shop, plus frozen veg top ups. My most regular spend apart from food is actually train and bus tickets on various day trips (retired turtle here). Probably won't join in the counting because of that.

ORGANISE your time. Many of you are very busy (especially teacher turtles) but to safeguard your health, both mental and physical, you need downtime. Simplify where possible.
I'm in the middle of doing this - the garden, the tidying in the house, that sort of thing.

VALUES Differentiate between needs and wants.
The only daily treat I have is a cup of coffee in the morning. It's been ground, until now, but I've just discovered Nescafe Azera, same price as bogstandard ground if its on sale (currently Asda :) ). Talked with my sister last month about a bucket list for travel - will be making that.

ENJOY yourself. Have fun. Kick about in the leaves, splash in puddles. Smile, be the rainbow in someone's cloud.
    :j:j:j

MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month. Plan your meals around what you have, make your shopping list up from the ingredients you need to go with them.
I don't think I'll be joining in with this bit either, hope thats okay - because I had chronic fatigue for so long, I have staples that my meals revolve around. Current plan is to learn one new recipe a month. I'm not convince :o

BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month - Food, travel, socialising, personal. Consider any birthdays or other events. Reduce last month's budget by 5%. If you don't know what you are spending, write down every purchase and analyse it at the month end to see where you can cut it (make cuts sooner if it's obvious). Make provision for a donation (money or goods) to your local food bank/ other charity of your choice.

I'm definitely at a loss here since retiring. I had a budget, yes - preliminary data suggests I'm not sticking to it in daily expenses :( I wanted to get that information by 1st November, but I needed to take a trip up north, so budgets got lost.

EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day. Many of you have an established exercise programme. If you don't, make a start, do something.
    Does gardening count?

RULES Turtle rules can be difficult at first. Think of them as a tool box. If you can use a hammer and a screwdriver you can do simple repairs. If you are competent with a range of tools you can much more. The more rules you can follow, the more you will save/ have for debt reduction.
This is great! I was on dfw for a *long* time, then mfw, and now I'm retired I have to make money stretch because thats all there is (still got just over two years to go until state pension age).

IN case of emergency Add any items you might need (torch, shovel for snow, old carpet for traction, extra coat or blanket) to your car boot. If you don't belong to a breakdown organisation, make sure you have phone numbers for friends or relatives who might come and help you.

I don't have a car, but I do have a tiny selection of emergency items in my handbag :rotfl:

Make sure you and your children can be seen if walking or cycling. This week, after the clocks go back, has the highest incidence of road accidents in the year.

Stock up with generic painkillers, cold and flu meds - just as effective as the expensive ones (MSE tested).

Really good points. Am stocked up, and I'm not out in the dark much, energy levels don't really allow for that.

NOW is always the right time to start. If you were successful in last month's healthy habit challenge, are you going to continue? Have you another new habit to add? If you fell didn't quite make it, start again now. If you start now you will still be 2 months ahead of those making resolutions in the new year.

    Love that. Love it.

NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event. Take your own food and drinks to work, hospital appointments and days out where possible.
Done this for years, so I won't take part in that.

EVERYONE should know their debt free date (work out what you owe, how much you can pay each month and work our when it will be paid). Pay to debt or savings first and live off what is left (I know some of you are not in a position to do this atm). EXTRA income ideas are always welcome - could your children's old toys be someone else's dream gift.
Knowing what I have to budget with, and thinking how I should use the little pension pots, yes.

WINTER proof your home, if you haven't already done so.

Might need to replace the final few old DG windows, they leak.

OUTSIDE It may be cold but wrap up warm and make the most of the available light - it will help your immune system and your mental health.
I usually do a free healthy walks thing once a week, but if I'm otherwise at home, I don't always make this effort. This is a good idea.

    REPORT regularly (daily is best)
    Agreed!

KINDNESS costs nothing. Everyone you meet is carrying some sort of burden, so try to be kind, especially to yourself.
    This is heartbreakingly true.
So there you go, thats me.

Plus: applemuncher: 7 of 9! That was great!

(Pause to let old bathwater go and bung food in the oven - it will be ready by the time I finish writing this and bath can run whilst I eat)

Health does not always come from medicine. Most of the time it comes from peace of mind, peace in the heart, peace in the soul. Sometimes it comes from laughter and love.

Make sure you are happy in real life, not just in social media.

Keep the child within alive. A child never tires of hearing the birds sing, never gets bored looking at flowers.
