I've seen threads by obviously seriously mentally unwell people where they've been told by other posters to kill themselves. You're saying that I shouldn't have reported those posts but told the OP to get a backbone?
Have we had posts like this on here?
Those threads should be reported to the Samaritan's instead.0 -
OP has history....they like to start threads as some sort of experiment.

Post #29 there shows them for what they are.0 -

Good god, which boards/forums do you go on? That is out of order and not the sort of thing I'm talking about at all. You must have seen threads on here (DT) that have been deleted for no reason at all apart from heated discussions. It seems pretty obvious that some cannot take others disagreeing with them. If I reported everyone who "called" pensioners, then my finger would be permenantly glued to the report button.
How many times have you seen someone say that we should all die off and let the younger ones decide brexit? Or it's all our fault (the boomers) we're in the mess we are just now? Or it's pensioners that are drainig the NHS/welfare budgets? If we all took it to heart, we'd be in a constant state of angst, personally I think it's hilarious, and only wish I could be around in 50 or 60 years to see those who are whinging now, getting the same treatment from the younger people then0 -

What do you mean by 'on here'? It was on MSE, but not DT. I can't remember if it was the marriages board or the benefits board.
What can the Samaritans do about a random internet user?Good god, which boards/forums do you go on? As above - I'm talking about MSE. I frequent the benefits, disability and health boards so 'getting it right' is more important than on DT/the ArmsThat is out of order and not the sort of thing I'm talking about at all. To be honest, probably about as many times as I've seen people slagging off millenials, calling them snowflakes who spend too much on phones and gadgets and whinge too much.
I'm Gen X (the one in between boomers and millennials) so I just leave you all to it.
I don't report normal robust discussion, debate etc. But sometimes things go too far.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

What are the Samaritans going to do for an anonymous poster on an Internet forum?
I've occasionally reported threads where it's a repeat poster who is clearly unwell and I'm concerned for them because if the direction the thread is taking. Ditto bullying/abuse towards other people.
Never reported anyone for comments aimed at me, or discussion threads. The whole point of debate is to get a different perspective although the ones that tend towards casual misogyny and racism I stay away from - not worth going there when people are doing it just for effect. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Oh and of course there's the school uniform/children toileting troll. They're seriously unwell and shouldn't be encouraged so their threads are frequently reported by pretty much everyone now, I think.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

On DT, unless there is the kind of extreme bullying towards those with clear issues, when is anything going "too far"?
DT is not the vulnerable on other boards coming looking for help but being trolled instead. It is debate on topical issues by anonymous alter-egos. If anyone is offended then they should simply leave the thread."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0 -

To e o far.
Well you can put system in place.
Eg phone number.
You can only log on to this part of the forum if you give us a phone number.
We send you a text to verification code you have given a genuine phone number before you post.
Need to redo every 3 months?
Then smaratians can get involved if this is quite common.0 -

ar.
On here = Either DT or MSE as a whole.
I do not go on marriage or benefits part.
I guess they can be quite heated.
Did they not pass some legislation making it an offense to encourage suicidal people on?0 -

I'd say that bullying of those with clear issues is when it goes too far. There was a nasty time years ago when someone was being accused of all kinds of sexual deviancies, I can't remember the exact details but it got very, very ugly.
As I said, I only very rarely report posts on DT. The last time I did was when someone was quoting parts of posts from elsewhere on the board, by a vulnerable poster, who had no idea that they were being torn to shreds on DT. That's just not on.
There have also been posters who have managed to find real life details of other posters and threatened to reveal them. That's going too far.
If people don't spend much time on these boards they're perhaps not aware of how many posts do go too far - because they're reported and removed.
If you never see the disgusting posts I suppose that could skew your thinking about perceived over reporting.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
