You do have 2 choices , the Bargepole guide to print and post was posted several years ago when the CCBC did not accept emailed defences , but is still an option for everyone !!
The modern and current preferred method is an emailed pdf document , with autoreply receipt by email too , as KeithP said
Either method can be used , but currently nobody is going to recommend posting it , especially since the covid19 pandemic !!
I would personally follow the rest of the advice by Bargepole but follow the instructions by KeithP , especially emailing the defence and the DQ , probably see emailing the WS plus Exhibits plus summary costs assessment to your local nominated court too in several months time
The pandemic has reduced the demand on paper and ink in many cases , one of the few good things to have come out of it5 -
Many thanks for all help so far. Defence has been emailed tonight.1

Hi folks. A quick q on procedure. I sent off my defence and was waiting for the Directions Questionnaire. I haven't yet received it. However, I did get a letter dated 1st Feb from the court acknowledging receipt of my defence. This talks about the claimant informing the court about whether they wish to proceed and that they have 28 days in which to respond. Obviously that is getting close now. What I'm unclear about is whether the N180 form only comes if they agree to proceed. I.e. if I hear nothing within the next week does that mean this is all over? Sorry if it is another obvious question. Thanks.0

Yes, of course you only get a DQ if they proceed. If they don't then there's no need fir a court to be allocated.Check mcol, as you know that tells you the status up until DQ are received back4

It follows from that that it is not known when the Claimant has to respond to the CCBC.
Further, we don't know what delays there are in the CCBC that means they don't send you a DQ as promptly as you would like.
Can I suggest that you keep checking your MCOL Claim History and as soon as you see that the CCBC has sent a DQ to you, you are ready to download a DQ, complete it and fire it back to the CCBC.5 -
Thanks. That's a good thought and good advice. As ever, really appreciate the folk on the forum.2

At the ccbc AND the claimant.3

Sadly they are proceeding
However, I have emailed the completed DQ to CCBC and the claimant today. Onwards and upwards.

Why did you expect differently?
Having paid to file the claim they will always continue at this poi8nt. They lose nothing by doing so.
Sometimes they cancel before paying the £25 hearing fee, but usually by this point the brinksmanship is worth it
