  • gawd made me scratch my head for a minute there Dawn! I think you're speaking of the scrap quilt I mentioned the other day?

Also do you have a toolstation/screwfix in your area? Look for bulbs there as will be a lot cheaper

Thank you :) I think there is a screwfix round the corner from B&Q I'll have a look in there :)

  • Hi all!

Hope you don’t mind me joining in with this thread. I have been reading the MSE forums for ideas and advice since starting my debt-free journey in January but this is my first post! Have felt as though I’ve been flagging in my efforts recently and so decided to make myself more accountable, as well as hopefully feeling uplifted, by listing the small daily achievements here. I’m sure I’ll be joining some of the challenges also - please feel free to point out any that you have found particularly helpful.

As for this week’s achievements so far...

    1. Made some rather scrummy tomato chutney using some cheap veg from the local grocer. Plan on gifting some to the MIL in return for some blackcurrant jam she made us last week.

    2. OH sourced a load of free wood from local traders (old pallet wood etc). Enough for the wood burner for at least a month already with the promise of more to come. Really happy with this - I do so resent having to fork out £60 for a load of logs that seem to only last a couple of weeks! Am trying to keep the heating off for as long as possible (we have electric radiators in lieu of central heating) but know I’ll have to give in soon for little DD3 and DS. If it was just me and OH, we’d be pretty hardcore and resist until we’re in the midst of a snowstorm!

    3. Checking survey sites x3 - have just cashed out £10 on one. Will be adding to emergency savings.

    4. OH stuck to shopping list (a small miracle in itself!) so £42 of £60 grocery budget spent with only a few extra items to pick up for weekend. Also used coupon app for £2.95 back - this gets added to Xmas fund (currently at £1004.62!).

Will hopefully to have more to add later this week. Good luck to everyone in their DF efforts!
Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.

Morning guys :D whoop another day off - although final of the stint....

    Hi & welcome browneyed_girl

CLF glad to hear your ma is ok x

chocolatelover93 a bit embarrassed I called you Dawn! :o opps sorry about that! Anything you intend to buy from B&Q check screwfix first. They used to be a subsidiary of B&Q so sell almost all the same stuff for a lot less!

Today I am carrying on in the same vein with being online. Pretty chuffed with how much I have reduced my online time over the last few days  yesterday I did come on twice during the day but both times only for 10 mins. My house is pretty much ticking along nicely now I'm not wasting so much of my time. And when I had some time where madam was playing yesterday I cut out 5 rows for my quilt :D

    Also I intend to:

[STRIKE]* take pup for walk & drop him off to co-sharer[/STRIKE]
    * taking madam to wildlife park using membership cards
    * will take sandwiches/snacks/drinks with us
[STRIKE]* take the opportunity to wash floors when pup has gone[/STRIKE]
    * order pup food online - need to research cheaper but as healthy options
    * get bags/clothes/food ready for work tomorrow
[STRIKE]* look at my 4 day shopping list and decide if anything is needed[/STRIKE]
    * do a tiny bit of filing & sort out cupboard
[STRIKE]* need to change bedding[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]so will check weather forecast[/STRIKE] looks good
    * bake muffins with madam. We did cookies yesterday but not many have survived! :rotfl:
[STRIKE]* take photo of broken harness and email to supplier[/STRIKE]
    * write complaint letter
[STRIKE]* wash fruit bowl[/STRIKE] - still haven't sorted this out!

Ok that will do. There's something else I can't think of! Hopefully it'll come to me later

    Morning all :)

    Yesterday's update:
    merida88 wrote: »
    - bike to work etc (took me half an hour to drive home yesterday. I live 1.4 miles from work ) - done
    - gym tonight - done
    - all meals and snacks from supplies - not quite done, see below
    - sort out the heating (turned it on yesterday to help OH re-acclimatise. Forgot to turn it back off of course so now the dog is home alone in a toasty house :o) - done, well it's still at a higher temp than I would like but I'll start sneaking it down slowly
    - NSD (found a box of coffee filters in the cupboard, was the only thing we needed so I believe this will be possible) - foiled by bread, and ham. So topped up fruit too, had some after supper last night hence can't 100% claim all snacks from supplies

    Today:
    - bike to work
    - walk dog for free exercise
    - meals and snacks from stores
    - NSD
    - stick to my new browsing rules - I've added a chrome extension and an app blocker, amazing!

Have a good day everyone :)

    Morning folks!

    Welcome to browneyed_girl :)

    Thinking of foxgloves today x
    Hugs to all

Thanks for all of mum's well wishes. She spent a lovely night being jumped on by the cat and talked my ear off for an hour and a half last night so is def feeling better!

It's my Saturday morning. I don't normally come online over my weekend but we have fixed the computer (required new motherboard battery - did it ourselves :money:) and I'm up and about.

I turned the heel on my sock last night only to realise that something was wrong and had to frog back to the leg. Oh well, it'll work up again. Essentially I'd accidentally picked up too many stitches for the heel flap, but followed the instructions for the correct number - see - I can't do it tired!!

Today is going to be a little bit spendy but planned. We are going to nearby tiny city (we are halfway between a big city and a tiny city) as OH has arranged to meet up with a friend for a coffee. I'll leave them to it as this girl is a bit odd tbh. I'm going to do some Christmas shopping then OH and I are going to go to the pictures, then for dinner. - apparently OH didn't think I was coming with. Have decided to stay at home and knit. Even better - decided to tidy up the garden or winter. Tomatoes and courgette plants dealt with. Mowed the lawn and now giving it the raking of its life!!

    Today's mission:
    • B/L from stores - done
    • Gym this morning - awful session. grrrr
    • Email interflora as the flowers I sent to mum (although nice) weren't what I ordered at all. - done
    • Enjoy lovely cheap light in kitchen - done
    • Enjoy lovely golden sunshine outside - maybe try to air the house a bit - done
    • Peg washing outside - done
    • Relax and be fabulous - done
    • Heating off - done
    • Take bag of carp to cs - done
    • Collect up bits for the tip into a box - done
    Have a good one all

  • Morning all :coffee:
I've given in to the combination of my sinus thing and after a completely rotten night of sleep I have called in sick at work. My stress levels are quite high at the moment and I was woken up just after 1am by a text from my ex - it managed to wind me up so much that I couldn't get back to sleep. So by 5am I decided not to go to work and sent in some cover, and I then managed another 90 minutes or so.
Not much mse stuff planned today at all. However, the sun is out and it seems to be a nice day so I'm thinking I might go out for a walk later to try and clear my head a bit.
  • Morning!

Thank you for the welcome CLF and determinednewms! Have loved reading these threads and now so happy to be joining in - am feeling the MSE love already! (Hence my overuse of exclamation marks...I promise that will stop once I’ve got over my initial excitement!). Oh, oops...

Lovely sunshine this morning - almost makes up for DS keeping me up all night. Almost.

So...goals for today are as follows:

    1. All meals from stores. Using up some ys bread with soup for lunch and have taken the last portion of a batch of hm pasta sauce out the freezer ready to make spag bol for dinner.

    2. Make banana bread with over-ripe bananas. My kids used to love eating bananas until they realised they got made into banana bread if they didn’t eat them! Using my own frugalness against me the clever swines!! Would stop buying bananas but mummy likes banana bread too...

    3. DH has been busy this morning chopping and sawing up all the wood he collected yesterday. Now all stacked in the garage arranged by size and type of wood (?!) in his usual OCD fashion, bless him.

    4. Load of reusable nappies currently in the washer (the only time I use a temp setting above 20). Will hang out to dry as long as the sun continues to shine.

    5. Place DD3 and DS in said nappies. Sometimes it seems like too much effort and I intermittently use disposables again (already have them in the house for nighttime), but then I think of all those nappies ending up in a landfill and it spurs me on again!

    6. Check survey sites x 3

    7. Plan some free days out and activities for half-term week.

Well, that seems like enough to keep me out of trouble for now! Have a lovely day everyone!

  • Ooh, determinednewms - just seen your plan to research pup food options. Where do you get it from currently?

We use tails.com for food for our collie. She had been on expensive raw food diet as most processed foods lead to her having bouts of colitis (or collie-itis as I joked to DH! Clearly he has no sense of humour as he failed to laugh - I think that’s comedy gold right there). Food from tails.com has had no such problems though and they tailor it to individual needs.

We currently pay £22 for a month’s worth of food. Even better - I ordered the first month via TopCashBack, which was free (only £1 p&p) and gave me £6.50 cashback - win/win!

You might also be able to get raw food from a local butcher. I don't have a dog but I have seen it advertised at our butcher
