Opinions about working kids paying Housekeeping needed!

I first started payign board when I was on my placement year from Uni and earning £6000 a year before tax. I gave my Mum £250 a month for board and did not begrudge her a single penny of it.
And earlier poster said they wouldn't charge board because a colleague said, "I had my kids for love not money", well, I look at it another way, my Mum brought me up on her own when my Dad left aged 2. I've never wanted for money or felt as if I was anything different from anyone else even though we must have been totally skint when I was growing up. I adore my Mum more than anything else in this life, and if give her £250 a month of my earnings let her relax a bit more for that time or treat herself occasionally, then it's been the best £250 I've ever spent.
Other than that, I'm not willing to freeload from the most important person in my life. If you earn, you should help out a bit with money for keep, if you don't, you're taking the !!!! and clearly don't have any respect for them.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -

25% of what ever they earn each month ,thats what I take and I think thats very fair.
wish I got to keep 75% of my monthly money to spend on myself .0 -
 Hi everyone,
Just to let you know....My son is paying £200 a month keep, and saving £500 a month for a deposit on a house - which still leaves him £466 a month to play with. (social life / driving lessons / car expenses /clothes etc.)
I'm pretty happy with this arrangement.
Thanks SO much to everybody who helped us to work this out.

Awww poor baby, only £466 a month left to play with...
Well done though Jacks for sticking to your guns!!

I am fighting with my 19 year old son who works to get £30 a week out of him! He always says he has no money but that is because he goes out every night and wears designer clothes, neither of which I can afford! I have now stopped buying the food he likes e.g. white bread! and he moans there is nothing in the house for him to take as a packed lunch. You can guess my reply!0

Have a read through this thread a few times, prepare your speech and stick to your guns. Its for his own good in the long-term, you'll never get rid of him otherwise...these 'kids' don't know they are born!!

Ooh I know bless 'em. They think it's all their pocket money to spend don't they?
During the "discussions" my son had the temerity to suggest that he didn't really cost anything and nobody really did anything for him anyway - and as we'd be paying all the bills in any case why should he pay anything.
(Who took my lovely son away and replaced him with this rotten brat!??)
I said in which case I may have to withdraw all the services that he was getting for free - and obviously not appreciating.
Then I drew up a Price List like an old fashioned landlady, printed it, and stuck it on his door. :rotfl:Price ListService wash £9

Oooh I know! Bless him. We dream of £466 to spend at will don't we?
I'm just glad he's saving though.
And Hubby backed me up - even if he didn't really want to do it.
He still thinks we should save it all up for him (maybe my son thinks we are saving it up for him???? :rotfl: ) And we will...
When we're debt free.
(Maybe)
Thanks for the back up honey.
