Post #73 is a possibility. There is no way for me to be sure.
I was looking this morning and found the same post again ...

    I found this
How to replace the laptop screen on a Asus X555L

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm_sLtqkOus

but is the 'inverter' mentioned in #73 part of the screen

Personally, since this is such a prevalent issue, if it were my device, I would be reaching out to ASUS for more information.
Isn't that the sort of thing they say in america? ;)

    Test complete
    Battery down to 60%
    Screen on complete blackout
Plugged HDMI into the TV and it was perfect ....

Do I buy a new screen or a new 'inverter' (?)

    ??

Apparently the Inverter is part of the screen. So a new screen. More than one person has stated that this fixed the issue.
But since it's an inherent fault, I would be pressing ASUS to supply it.

    Many thanks.
I have "reached out" to Asus asking them to supply a replacement, but I'm sure I know what they will say!!!
(Laptop bought new in April 2016 off an eBay seller)

A quick google said they were about 30/40 quid, so maybe I will have to bite the bullet??

    Will see what Asus say

Oh...eBay. :) Hopefully you have written an eloquent letter stating that is is obviously an inherent fault and not fit for purpose, as illustrated by the prevalence of reports online.

Seemingly, if you want to use the laptop on battery power.

    just shooting the breeze here.

That flicker, if you move the laptop or close the lid a little does it flicker more, less or about the same - mechanical fault of connector or wiring?

if the screen goes black, looking close at the screen, can you see an image there of the page, a torch may help - backlight

non of the above, electronics or power to the screen

    Tests complete -

    Lid moving makes no difference
Black screen shows nothing at all even with a torch, but is fine with HDMI cable to TV
