I went for the Minimax M3, installed by Compass Water Softeners, Martin Perrin., great service. I let it be known that I knew my products and asked about the larger models, as he also sold the larger versions of Minimax Harvey's etc as well as Ecowater. 

The water softener is only as good as the water mains pipe coming into the house. The size of my my pipe was 40mm I think he said, which means the Base models only will be sufficient. A larger water softener won't do any more than the base model, unless you have an 80mm incoming pipe. Like George Clooney has.... so I'd double check your pipework before going for larger models.  We have had the Minimax M3 for 4 days now, already such a difference!!
Martin threw in a free carbon filter for the drinking water tap too, and sunk in the product to the kitchen floor as opposed to sitting on the cupboard floor. Big help to refill the salt!!!

How efficient is the Kinetico to the Minimax? When I last looked, Minimax was top of the performance charts. Kinetico I believe is not as efficient as the models I was looking at, as mentioned previously. Make sure it has a double tank for regeneration, at that price it should have more!

Drinking softened water is often not very pleasant so the 3 way kitchen tap presents filtered water via the third tap. We had a softener installed two or three weeks ago (tapworks) and are very happy both with less limescale and filtered drinking water.

I have a rep over next week and don't know if its better to buy outright after the trial or rent.
I worry about reliability of the Arc model and its maintenance costs after 3yrs.
Did you all have to negotiate your quoted prices?

That price includes the three way tap at an extra £280, without the tap they would provide a "free" faucet with the filter.
I also called Capital Softeners who gave a price of £1690 including fitting for a MiniMax, they would throw in a standard drinking water filter and six bags of salt blocks. A Premier Compact would be £1937 including fitting from Capital.

Harvey seems a little expensive for the Arc comparted to the MiniMax so when they call back I'll see if I can get them down to under £2000 and if they will include more salt.

I am in recieved qoutes with Sterling Softners for the Harrow area which seem a bit high in comparison with other on here albeit different areas:
I am debating if i need the Minimax M3 (£1335 inc VAT) Innova (£1400) or the Minimax Major (1700) i have 4 adults in the house and 2 bathrooms and addiitonal toilet - so any suggestions would be helpful

I was told during the demo £1,932 without Sure Stop ( extra £73). The written quote ( I said I wanted to research this) was £2,137. 

I queried this and it was changed.

I think not the best price. 
On installation day plumber told that he cannot get the hardwater line (drinking water) to the kitchen sink. So they included the RO system in the above price.
