Just a Harvey, suffolk coast, 18 mar 19, £1428 incl VAT and installation

I am guessing it was HV3 (also quoted Hague at £1650 and Purecom £995) Compared to some of you its good!
May I add? It was a trained but not hi pressure sell but I got (more) suspicious when he photo'd the quotes I wrote down. A little research and I worked out av. expense for brick v other salt about twice - say £70 p.a. for 1 brick per month per person (Harveys approx use so probably lo) Thats 1400£ over the life of the unit ie same as the outlay. A clue was the brick - i/net suggests Harvey Crown Twintec minimax - all to come from same factory - same spec figs. Interestingly Crown are listed about 865 /895 on the net down from 1100 ish rrp. So I am guessing this kit cost 700 to installers s.t. volumes. Even Kinetico have machine with same spec - same factory? Liked the Harvey concept of usage driven regen (remeber electricity use by water softener motors is lo perhaps £2 p.a.) but realise metered machine i.e those doing regen based on use not time are same but without two exchange units. I was looking to replace old tapworks AD10 - not now recommended by my man although they installed it 18 yrs ago - but AD11 is metered at £435 (and several places say fitting costs of plumber is under £200 - eg W2B an irish maker selling cheap units on the net.)

  • Dear All,
    Location: Milton Keynes

If you live in any of the hard water areas, then you should ideally consider having a water softener fitted in (i moved here from london, and my skin felt assaulted! Friend of mine is from Wales, and she refuses to drink the water :rotfl: gets bottled water from Asda. Don't blame her, the tap water in Wales is Paradise H2O.)

Harvey's is one of the costlier quotes I got at:
    £1,854.00 for 1) HV3 softener gear 870; 2) Installation; 3) Drinking filter; 4) Salt x 2bags; 5) 1/4 turn tap chrome; 6) 3 years warranty.

After the sales rep left, I done some more research, and called back.
Managed to negotiate 12 bags of salt, with the water filter (£130) included in for free, for a total of : £1,698.00

Again, this is quite costly, but given their reputation, the warranty, the additional salt bags, and the fact that I can spread the cost over 6 months without interest, it's not a bad idea.

    hope this helps

    peace and love

    HV3 Softener £1124
    HV3 Installation £291
    Standard Salt x2 bags £0
    VAT £283
    3 Year PL Warranty
    TOTAL £1698

I have gone for a 3 month trial and also thought would add a filter tap on to these costs (filtered drinking water)
I've read somewhere that if you decide not to go ahead after the trial they will negotiate a cheaper price (similar to Broadband companies etc)
    Has anyone experienced this?
I had no idea before the rep came what it would cost but did have a ball park figure around £1200 so was a little shocked on the cost.
  • I had the exact same pricing quoted
    HV3 Softener £1124
    HV3 Installation £291
    Standard Salt x2 bags £0
    VAT £283
    3 Year PL Warranty
    TOTAL £1698
I too would like to go for the trial - and I was offered 6 months IFC / payment plan. But it's still too much for me as part of a wider renovation so budget is tight! So I'm going to try to negotiate...
  • Wow. Can't believe some of the astronomical prices people pay for water softener!

Bought mine from Amazon several months ago. Company called Water 2 Buy. High capacity (Up to 7 people) and on a meter so no needless daily regeneration wasting salt unless it's needed.

Total price £550. Picked up 25k salt for a tenner. Never looked back.

Reminds me, of double glazing industry where you pay extra for well known national brands, until you realise local independents cheaper and just as good.
  • Had my water softener installed today with a 3 way tap to have filtered water. Took around 2 hours to fit.
Updated invoice is £2128 with tap.
  • Until you realise that local company is offering you a 10 year warranty, and has only existed for 2 years...

I had Anglian come out 10 years after they installed my new windows to replace one sealed unit that had failed. I hadn't even extended the warranty.

Exact same quote here, also London, installed July. Based on cost I'm either going to continue "renting" it for a monthly fee, rather than pay off the remainder outright or with the 6 month payment plan, or cancel it towards the end of the trial.

The trial was very much a "does this actually work" test for me after a bit of a heavy sell. After having time to research I'll most likely pick up the same or similar unit off ebay/Amazon for much cheaper.
