Exact same quote here, also London, installed July. Based on cost I'm either going to continue "renting" it for a monthly fee, rather than pay off the remainder outright or with the 6 month payment plan, or cancel it towards the end of the trial.
The trial was very much a "does this actually work" test for me after a bit of a heavy sell. After having time to research I'll most likely pick up the same or similar unit off ebay/Amazon for much cheaper.
Presumably, they don't come & remove the plumbing when you stop renting, so you could go and buy any softener to replace it with, and install it yourself?0 -
HV3 Softener 1,124.00
HV3 Installation - Standard 291.00
Salt 12 bags (offer from a neighbour recommending them to us - they got 12 too) and 6 as a starter pack
3 Year PL Warranty

Worth every penny - OH's terrible eczema has improved wildly beyond expectation, his skin is the best it's ever been. Limescale was ridiculous and has now vanished. Our plan was to see if it worked, how it was fitted and then to get a cheaper option. However once it was fitted we were so impressed we just bought the unit.
I didn't find them to be a hard sell, nor did they hide the costs - also we had a small issue after fitting and the after service was excellent which I find is where companies tend to fail.1 -

I am looking at a water softener and considering other makes are at 1/2 this price for a good make & 25% of price for the budget types anyone know the science - do the inline descalers work ?
OR if you want it to work bite bullet & buy Harveys?
Thanks0 -

A question I have for people that went for the trial and then kept it...
The above quoted installation fee when outright buying the unit seems excessive.
Was any installation fee paid for the trial or when you decided to keep/pay??
Thanks0 -
Just a quick update. After the installation we got a leak (had read this before on other forums that the plumbers are not the best) this was quickly rectified as we spotted it early. We are in the process of having a new bathroom fitted so that was the idea of having soft water so not to get any limescale scum etc
We have noticed a difference to washing up and taking a shower and bath (less product) but wasn’t seeing much difference with skin conditions (wife and son have minor dry skin)
The water filter is great (although only comes out normal temperature as expected so needs to be chilled for me)
So looking at the cost against the benefits and upside we decided not to go ahead with the softner (like any project we overspent on the bathroom project) we felt we would take another look at a softner next year. Anyway to cut a long story short it took me 2 weeks and more to get someone at Harvey’s to call me about the uninstalling the unit. After 3 urgent emails were sent to their installation team! Basically what I think they do is wait until the very last moment to address you (mine was a day before my trial officially ended) to call you back!! I explained my reasons costs/leak/salt bags (only given 1 bag extra for trial) bought some from screw fix to cover the duration. They said give me 5 mins and they would call me back to see what they could do. 5 mins later they knocked £400 off the quoted price 12 bags of salt and 0% over 18months which basically was now a no brainer for me.
£1729.95 (softner/3 way tap filter/12bags)0 -
Though the initial quote you were given was £1698?
Was the extra the tap?
Just trying to workout how they did the discount.
Thank you0 -
Yes that didn’t include the 3way tap0
