Carry on smoking, your garden (I'm a non smoker).
If neighbour does not like these things, then they should have thought of that and moved where there is no neighbour either side.
However did we cope when you could smoke inside pubs etc?!0 -

Indeed the OP baits like a true master0 -
I wish that were the case but you are all reading too much into this. There's no ulterior motive or attempt to bait on my part.0

Risk or not the smell of smoke still stinks to high heaven and is very noticeable if you are a non smoker. The OP doesn't want his house to smell of smoke (although in reality it probably does anyway) but it's ok for the neighbour's house to stink. The OP asked what people would do and then came out with pathetic excuses about not being able to stand on the grass because his feet are bare. Fair enough if the OP doesn't want to change any of his behaviour but then you need to wonder what the point of the thread was if there was never the intention to compromise?
I know they shouldve just told them they best start looking for new house.
The best thign about opinions of others is you can choose to care about them or not. In this case, i wouldnt.
I smoke outside my house, my neighbour is considerate though, they shut their window.0 -
I'd actually say that their reputation is even more reason to go to the end of your garden. It's just such a small thing, so no need to.risk it becoming a bigger problem.0

Nahhh, you dont pander to people like that, it encourages them to think they can dictate how people live.0 -

Of course - but I think this is well into "normal" so would have no problem delaying potential problems. I'd also want to evaluate the neighbour for myself which I couldn't do by irritating them straight off.0 -
Reading what you wrote gave me an idea, could you build a little "outhouse" at the end of the garden where you could smoke? Would potentially solve your current problem and give you shelter when the bad weather arrives?
Make it a reasonable size. Insulate the walls, floor, and roof. Install a natty little wood stove. A bar along with a couple of chairs would finish it off nicely.
In the middle of the lawn, stick a post in the ground - Something about 8" diameter and 12' high should do the job. A circle of stones surrounding it large enough to contain burning brushwood. The neighbour, along with some of the MSE posters, will be round soon enough with pitchforks and flaming torches to chain the OP to the post. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0
