Smoking in garden

Thanks all for the slightly over the top berating of me asking a question, I consider myself well and truly told that I am the one in the wrong, I shall build a smoke proof bunker at the bottom of the garden and flagellate myself with barbed wire for being the most selfish person to walk the earth.
Glad you've got a sense of humour, you need it on here🙄. Got to say I was surprised by the responses on here. I'm anti smoking, but I think it's a bit much to be that precious about a bit of smoke drifting. Conflating the risk of smoking with being able to detect smoke is over the top IMHO🙂0 -

That gave me a laugh. You do need thick skin when asking for advice on this forum because it seems most people on here "know better".
Reading what you wrote gave me an idea, could you build a little "outhouse" at the end of the garden where you could smoke? Would potentially solve your current problem and give you shelter when the bad weather arrives?0 -

Risk or not the smell of smoke still stinks to high heaven and is very noticeable if you are a non smoker. The OP doesn't want his house to smell of smoke (although in reality it probably does anyway) but it's ok for the neighbour's house to stink. The OP asked what people would do and then came out with pathetic excuses about not being able to stand on the grass because his feet are bare. Fair enough if the OP doesn't want to change any of his behaviour but then you need to wonder what the point of the thread was if there was never the intention to compromise?0 -

Made me laugh!
I'm in a semi, have lovely neighbours. I'm not a smoker but tbh, it doesn't bother me either. However, if I were a smoker and my neighbour came round as yours did, I'd say something along the lines of....'sorry, I had no idea, of course I'll stop straightaway', even if I thought they were making a mountain out of a molehill(i'm not there, so I don't know), because good neighbourly relations are worth more than money and it's no biggie to find a way of smoking elsewhere.I would if I could :rotfl: Usually I WALKif I need to go further afield I use my electric bike. Possibly once or twice a year I will go to my daughter's, which means a car journey
her car, I don't own one.
Just to be pedantic (hey it's MSE), you'll use things brought by a truck, so you will be, albeit second hand, be responsible for emissions:o0 -

Totally agree. Just try your best.
My next door neighbour smokes in the garden and swears a lot. Every other word, stuff like "Yeah, I'm just going to f**king put the f**king rubbish out love". Bit annoying.
My other neighbour has a teenage son who has his window open in summer and blares out music. Bit annoying.
My dog barks in the garden. When it does, I get it in (It's never outside when I'm not in the house). Imagine that's a bit annoying for our neighbours too.
None of us are perfect. Would be nice if people were just a little more tolerant. As of 24/11/2020

Thanks all for the more reasoned responses, even if they are anti smoking. To give a bit of balance to my question, and one I alluded to in my original post, these neighbours have a reputation for being unreasonable and finding fault with other things the other neighbours do so the chances of building good relations is slim to none (for example they once complained when i parked my car outside their house on the road, not obstructing them in any way).
We are literally having 1-2 cigarettes over the course of an evening (sometimes we don't have one at all if we haven't had a bad day at work!), not chain smoking so my initial reaction was one of surprise and that they were over reacting.
Of course I can put shoes on, I don't have stumps, I just didn't see why I should make an effort for people who are known bad neighbours and have shown no consideration for others. It baffles me that they moved to an estate based on their inability to get on with other people!0 -

Did you just want to be able to write that all along?0 -

So your response to someone behaving like an awkward inconsiderate @rsehole is to be a more awkward inconsiderate @rsehole back?!?
You might think that's fighting fire with fire, but in reality, all you're doing is sinking down to their level. If you're fine with that, carry on, just don't try and claim any kind of moral high ground....0 -
