Brexit the economy and house prices part 6

...This all started with people wanting to control our borders....
This all started with so many things that have fallen by the wayside since.
It was about control of borders, but brexiteers now tell us they're happy with open borders.
It was about funding the NHS, look what happened to that.
It was about the sunlit uplands post brexit. Is anyone still mentioning sunlit uplands? Where did those sunlit uplands go?? :rotfl:0 -

Can someone please explain why Ireland not placing a hard border with NI will enable the UK to control our borders and prevent these immigrants entering the UK?
This has been done literally to death in these forums.
Sadly it looks like you ignored it all.
Before travelling from NI to mainland UK one must cross water.
Carriers of those travelling all require some form of photographic ID.
It's really not difficult to prevent access of travel using this means to anybody not permitted entry to mainland UK.
And NI is unlikely to turn into a Greek-style migrant camp, even you must surely agree.0 -

Here we go, another remainer list of imaginary reasons.
Cue number 1. :rotfl:
It was about control of borders, but brexiteers now tell us they're happy with open borders.
Was it?
Then how come your fellow remainers insist upon telling us that there were loads of reasons why people voted for Brexit and also that nobody knew what they were voting for?
It was about funding the NHS, look what happened to that.
Yes.
It got extra funding!

Brexiters aren't as desperate as remainers to try and prove a point which in reality can't be made, because nobody can see into the future.
But since you're harping on, here's a recent report from MoneyWeek:Relax – a no-deal Brexit will be fineOf course, it is important not to exaggerate the impact. About 16% of the UK economy is accounted for by imports and exports, and about half that trade is with Europe. So roughly 8% of the economy will feel some impact, but the other 92% won’t really notice any difference at all whatever happens over Brexit.
By all means carry on with your pulling-out-of-hair and gnashing of teeth because we're leaving the EU, but most of us are just getting on with our daily lives in the knowledge that tomorrow will be just another day.0 -

I thought this was how the idea was supposed to work. So in effect the border is between NI and the mainland. The DUP are behind this I presume.
I did see some previous discussion but things change so frequently these days and I have been busy.
On your last point I agreeFew people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

ALREADY when travelling between the Northern Ireland and mainland UK you may be asked to prove your identity at ports and can be refused travel and/or entry by UK immigration officials. and it has been like this for many years so there's no NEW border.
This from Trip Advisor in 2015 confirms my own experience, and note that this was posted by a Northern Irish inhabitant.... reason for the "immigration checks" at Larne or belfast is a lot of people who dont have UK or Irish or EU passports and need visas come up over the land border from Ireland and thus enter the UK across the land frontier illegally into the UK often these people are on their way to the rest of the UK , as there is no immigration checks on the land frontier with the Republic of Ireland....
I do hope that this helps clarify your misunderstanding.0 -

I am not "misunderstanding" I am asking a question.
Surely the point is that at present someone travelling between NI and rest of UK just needs some plausible id. Whether that will continue after Brexit or whether only passports will be accepted remains to be seen.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Which is the same as needing to go through passport control to cross the Dartford Tunnel. That's your "solution"?
Well Brexiters have certainly done away with free movement, haven't they?
Not only will they not be able to access the EU, they wont even have free movement around their own country. What a master stroke.0
